Photography by Edulterado Hi friends! Hey… Wanted to say a little thank you to all the kind words that came my way after yesterday’s post through out the various avenues of the internet. I really appreciate it and hopefully I can work through it toward a happy ending, we’ll see, there’s still a long way to go. I’m very sorry to be so esoteric (is that the right word?) but given who’s involved, it needs to be. But, with the issue feeling like it’s moving forward, even if only a little bit, and with a wonderful, wonderful bike ride this morning (and an hour on a spin machine yesterday (it was snowing)), I’m certainly doing better. Add in all the love & support from Baby (of course) and some quality music time, like today’s little obsession, We Built A Fire by Seabear, I’m optimistic! Is it just me? Or is more and more Scandinavian making it’s way into my brain? Is Scandinavian music the natural progression for a prog-tainted Canadian-Indie fanboy? Lately, it’s been feeling like it as Icelander (or is it Icelandic or both?)
Hi friends!

Lately, it’s been feeling like it as Icelander (or is it Icelandic or both?) Seabear — wait, how about this.

*ahem*

Lately, it’s been feeling like it as Seabear, hailing from Iceland – okay, didn’t LOVE the “hailing” and probably used THAT wrong, but let’s just go with it anyway, okay? otherwise, we’d be here all day – is just the latest to steal ear & brain time.

Not sure why. For the most part, you seem to have either epicish/proggy grandiose rock like Sigur Ros or you have intelligently crafted pop, and neither of those descriptions sound all that special, but there’s just something about it. It’s usually got a layer of crystalline glean, like (and pleeeease forgive me my dear Scandinavian friends) it’s got a layer of…

*sigh*

well, a layer of ice on it. Lardy, that made me cringe to even write. But is that the nature of Europe’s Canada? I landed in Iceland once, emergency landing for a sick passenger, here’s what I saw:

So maybe… Maybe because THIS is the image in my head, that this is the layer I hear in all the music? Wait. Is Iceland even considered Scandinavian? I can’t remember.

Anyway, Seabear, beautiful, intelligently crafted, more complex than it seems, folk-pop, and absolutely wonderful.
