Tsuru & The Bride Present… Aaron Loves Meghan Volumes I, II, III, & now IV!!!

Yep!  It’s November 17th and that can only mean one thing….. Another Aaron Loves Meghan Mixtape!!!!!

YAY!

Good ol’ November, my favourite month, to be sure!  It means autumn weather (when Mother Nature gets her shit together), it means the holidays are coming — yay, time off! — but of course, for us, it means so much more.  We went on our first date on a Sunday morning in November when she came over to my place for an old movie, some wine, and some stinky stinky cheese (which I thought was her feet, making me nervous that she was stinky, until we put the cheese away and she smelled good) and we totally made out like bandits — I hear that’s how they get caught, they always end up making out instead of getting away from the coppers!

It was a November evening 4 years ago that we got engaged and went off to a Decemberists concert during their Crane Wife tour — you see how that crane thing fits in, eh?

And, of course, it was 3 years ago today that we gots murried in a small tunnel like winery with a few friends and family, where we gave out mixtapes and this whole Aaron Loves Meghan tradition began!!!

What a fun 5 years we’ve had so far, eh?  Besides just all the Tsuru & The Bride stuff of music, photography, and craftin, there’s been the trips to Italy, Prague, Panama, Vancouver to Calgary, Budepest, and this December, Paris!!!  What about our first little weekend trip together down in Jacksonville to see Sharon Jones on Super Bowl Sunday with about 10 people at the show?  The T-shirt is in the photo up top!  It was on that first trip we learned to keep separate suitcases, lol…

Oh Baby, we’ve had so much fun, so much craziness, so much being the odd ones, I love you like a mad man on crack sniffin’ coke while shooting up heroin jumping out of a plane.  You are my puzzle-piece, fit me in every way, shape, and form perfectly, it’s really kinda unreal sometimes.  Unlike that poor sail-maker, I know what I got, and I plans to appreciate it!

I love you, Baby.  Happy annivesary!!!!

*SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCH!*

Okay, enough mushy-pants action!  It’s time for the music!!!  This year, we did something a little different, we built our mixtape from our record collection, appropriately calling it Let’s Just Listen To Some Records from one of the lyrics from one of the songs, can you guess which one??  Hence the sleeve-face photo up top.  We literally went back and forth, picking songs to play, recording them, and just having a wonderful evening organically curating a little mixtape.  Then, it was just cut, paste, mix, and BLAMO, superawesomegoodtimes are had!  So let’s get to it!  AND… as a special treat, we once again uploaded the previous volumes… a total of 77 songs for your listenerin’ pleasurin’!

WOOOT!

So enjoy as…

TSURURADIO Presents… Prog The Needle?!?! A mixtape of outtakes from the epic vinyl mixtape battle royale!

Photo & subsequent “hipsterization” by me!!!

Well…. I was looking forward to a long, hard bike ride today, but apparently Accuweather wasn’t so “accu” after all as the afternoon thunderstorms hit at 8am, just as I arrived on my bike at Tuck’s to ride.  Nice.  It’s not the rain that bothers me, I love riding in the rain, but heavy wind with thunder & lightning, well, even I know when to say, “hmmm……. maybe we should wait a bit, eh?”

One man’s lost is another man’s gain, right?  So instead of waiting until this afternoon for today’s special post, here we are!

What can I say?  Friday…  Man, we, well, destroyed The Needle Drop.  I mean literally!  His server has been down since Friday afternoon!  I think we literally actually destroyed them!  I…. I didn’t mean too! I guess I don’t know my own mixtape strength??  Hot damn.

In celebration, Baby & I went up to the park for a picnic on Friday with champagne & goat cheese & meat & crackers (photo up above), and it was quite nice.  In fact, the whole weekend has been nothing but nice.  Riding & relaxing, what else does one need??

Speaking of riding…. On Saturday, this Saturday, the 5th, I’m once again riding in the ADA’s Tour de Cure!

Yep, just like last year, I’m putting my legs to good use, riding 100 miles throughout the northeast side of Columbus to raise money to help fight diabetes!!! Can I get a WOOT!

WOOOOOOOOOOT!!!

Niiiiice….  And just like last year, I’m asking for your help!  If you have a few bucks and want to sponsor my ass, I would be so grateful & appreciative!  Just click my picture of me rocking my Tour de Cure jersey.  Every dollar helps and I promise to do you proud and give you a fun-filled ride report when it’s all said and done!

Okay!  Now the music!  In appreciation & celebration of our victory in our Vinyl Mixtape Battle Royale, I’ve created another vinyl mixtape for you!  WHEEE!!!  I call this one “Prog The Needle”, as it’s mostly prog or proggish vinyl cuts that didn’t quite make our mixtape on Friday, put in order, cleaned and tagged up, just for you!  Yeah, yeah, yeah, it’s not ALL prog, but tell me, after listening 1 to 5 that “Never Tell” doesn’t have elements of prog in it!  And NMH has some psych in it, which is where much prog came from and the Femmes were completely inspired by Velvet Underground and Peter Gabriel, though “Biko” isn’t prog, WAS uber-prog with Genesis and stuff and stuff and so on and so on.

Why not?

Exactly.  So, tell you what… Don’t worry about labels, if you aren’t familiar with some of this, give it a go (especially “Heart Of The Sunrise” by Yes, a rather under-appreciated Yes song from Fragile), open yer ears, open yer mind, and get yer prog on as….

TSURURADIO Presents…
Prog The Needle?!?!

(full zip)

01 Islands – Arm’s Way
02 Frog Eyes – Styled By Dr. Roberts
03 Sunset Rubdown – Up On Your Leopard, Upon The End Of Your Feral Days
04 Yes – Heart Of The Sunrise
05 The Decemberists – The Tain
06 Violent Femmes – Never Tell
07 Neutral Milk Hotel – Where You’ll Find Me Now
08 Velvet Underground – What Goes On
09 Peter Gabriel – Biko

Cheers & thank you again everyone!!!

itty interwebs: i’ll keep posting these if you employ me this summer ;)

May 28, 2010
By

Alright look, I was gonna post sooner, I’ve been a very good tsurukid and have been posting weekly almost on the day, but I’ve been busy okay?! I’m sorry! I’m 2-ish days late, but I was away! I was in the city last weekend having a ball and then boston until last night! Wanna hear about it?

“Yes”

Okay great.

Friday, arrived in Williamsburg at my uber chill crash pad (sister’s apartment, I’m almost cool…) with my buddy Doov. After laxin’ a bit, getting some falafel, stopping in some record shop, we made our way over to see Fuck Buttons at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. I really like this venue cause it’s pretty small and the staff lets me take posters. Also the bathrooms are sweet. ;) These are my priorities, hahahaha. They were killer and loud and dancey and glorious. Then I slept tight, napped all Saturday, and prepped for the epic and final NYC LCD Soundsystem show (although, Murphy said about 300 times that this would NOT be his last NYC show, so, take that h8rs). Walked around all day with my buddy Erf and unfortunately killed my feet before the show even started. Had to jump around a lot to make up for it. Holy Ghost! was…. Eh. I respect them, but I wasn’t into it to be honest. Thought the vocals were weak, amongst other things. May have been the fault of the big stage though, who knows. ANYWAY LCD SOUNDSYSTEM WAS AMAZING OMGAH. I mean, they were killer at Coachella when I saw them in April, but this didn’t compare. I’m pretty sure at my age (when it’s still socially acceptable to inch up to the stage and jump around for 2 hours, rather than get a beer and stand on the balcony), Terminal 5 makes every show epic. Anyway, the set was incredible, including a few tears shed during Someone Great (I can’t help it) and some Pow Pow fist pumps… (I can’t help that either.) Erf and I complained all the way back to the subway about aches and epicness, still carrying our finale balloons (and by ‘Erf and I complained,’ I mean ‘I complained’). Stopped and got a carton of OJ… I’ve never drank a carton of OJ so fast, it was unbelievable.

As always, I left my real camera at home (Srsly. Need a press pass. How does that work anyway?) but I did get a few okay ones on the little guy for y’all.

Blah blah blah, ari’s life, etc. Want some itty interwebs now?

“Yes”

Okay great.

Here are a few forreal itties that don’t need much explanation. They’re just funny/cute/funny, in that order.
Justin Vernon
Girls and Boys
Otter

Someone tweeted this the other day, but I didn’t write it down and just bookmarked it instead. So, dear twitter friends/bloggers, thanks for this one, and sorry. It’s a pretty straightforward and legitimate entry on why vinyl is sweet. Gotta say Tsuru is like my vinyl father – he single-handedly brought me into this world, and so I will help him support it by sharing this with you! You should like it too!
Why I love Vinyl (and you can too, amirite?!)

Best thing of the week? This short animation my boyf posted on my facebook the other day. It’s pretty much the cutest thing since my cat Tweebles and the sweetest since She & Him Vol. 2. It certainly melts my heart!
Crater Face

By the way, Champ might have leaked today and I’m just saying, you could, theoretically, find it on the internet somewhere to listen to to hold you over until you buy it on June 8, WHICH I WILL BE DOING. I haven’t finished it through yet, but I’m working on it and I’ll probably let you know via twitter my opinion soon. ILYTPC

Okay well I left my computer charger at my at a friends and have 23 minutes of battery left, so this is all from me!

Oodles of luv ‘n’ stuff,

ari (1 2 3)

PS. I REALLY NEED A JOB. IF YOURE READING THIS, AND YOU LIKE ME, EMPLOY ME THIS SUMMER. PLEASE.

Timelines: Gooder, goodest, and holy fucking awesome!!! And… we get our groove on with Relayted by Gayngs!

It’s Monday once again but man o’ man what a birthday weekend!!  Bike rides, arts & crafts (x2), libations & celebrations, bike races, and lots & lots of record playing on my new phonographical machine Baby got me for my birthday!!  Wanna see?

Ain’t she pretty?

Speaking of record playing, the 2nd draft for our Vinyl Mixtape Battle Royale with The Needle Drop is done and under review!  She’s sounding good!  I can not WAIT to drop this on you guys, thereby destroying Anthony and the evilness he represents!!!

MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But that’s not the only thing on tap here in Tsuru Land — moustache rides are still free! That’s right, the next month is going to be pretty epic sauce (as adventurerneil would say)!!!  Here, I built a timeline to help you visualize what’s ahead:

Okay, as you can see… 5/28 is when the Needle Drop gets destroyed.  Check. Then there is no rest for the weary as a week later I’m once again riding 100 miles to help raise money for diabetes research in the 2010 Tour de Cure!!!

WOOOOT!!!!

Now, I didn’t say anything until now because I really wasn’t sure if family obligations were going to make me drop out of the ride… But all things are looking good & clear, my legs are solid gold, and it’s time to get my ride ON!

Here the thing, diabetes is a shitty disease.  Odds are it effects someone in your life.  Now, I’m not going to sit here and give a speech about the disease but I will say this… Anyone and everyone who donates, if not to me to someone,  thank you very much.  I promise to ride my ass off and make you proud!  Oh man, remember last year’s ride?  2 flats? Oof.

DONATE NOW!!!

Back to the timeline and you’ll see a hot mess of activity around 6/27, right?  Oh man… I’m so excited as Baby & I are taking a much needed serious vacation that I’m dubbing The Great Rural Alberta Advantage Vacation Getaway!!!  Here’s the plan.

Fly into and hang out in Vancouver:

Then take the Rocky Mountaineer train ride from Vancouver through the Canadian Rockies:

Where we end up in Banff & Lake Louise (holy shit, right?):

Then, after we get our nature on, we head over to Calgary:

Where we’ll meet up with Slowcoustic & Culture Bully and go to Sled Island Music & Film Festival!!!

BAD ASS, RIGHT???

It’s going to be an exciting month… that’s for damn sure. While all the excitement builds though, don’t worry, we’ll still have tons of new music to flood you with, that will never change until they pry this blog from my cold dead hands!!!!!!! And today’s gem is one I’ve been squatting on for a little while now, but it’s so god damn chill and I’m in such a good god damn mood, I can’t think of a better time to listen to it! Oh, I’m talking about Relayted by Gayngs!

Honestly…. this is just some reeeeally sweet ass chill. Just sit back, think about the month to come, smil on your face chilly-chill music. Spacey-synthy with the occasional nugget sound effect in the mix (like on “The Gaudy Side Of Town”, with it’s electric buzzy noise and stuff). Speaking of Gaudy Side, it TOTALLY has a Sade thing going on, making me think of sexy times. Hawt.

Yeah… this is some sexy shit! Sweet! I don’t even need to spend bandwidth, looks like the label’s got a couple tracks and an mov for ya! HOORAY!

Okay, get yer beanbag, dim the lights, if you are into “doobies” go light it up, and get ready! Enjoy! Oh… don’t forget the incense.

01 The Gaudy Side of Town
02 The Walker
03 Cry (a MOV file)
04 No Sweat
05 False Bottom
06 The Beatdown
07 Crystal Rope
08 Spanish Platinum
09 Faded High
10 Ride
11 The Last Prom on Earth

Some Gayngs love! Myspace | Official | Label

Cheers!

PROJECT: In The Vinyl Rip Over the Sea!!!

February 27, 2010
By

Okay, my friends…. Do you love vinyl?  Do you have a record player???  Well, I’ve got a Project for you, for all of us.  My favourite thing about vinyl is that every single listening experience is different.  My record is different then your record, my turntable is different, my speakers, my needles, how I drop the needle, when I pick it up, how quickly I flip the record, etc, etc, etc makes every single listening experience unique.

If you listen to vinyl, you know all of this… But now it’s time to show the world.

The Project I propose to you, to everyone, is to take one of the greatest records of all time, Neutral Milk Hotel’s In The Aeroplane Over The Sea and record your own vinyl experience.   No other album in recent memory has become as such a underground following and timelessness to it than this one and I couldn’t think of a better album for this project.

I don’t care how you do it, in a vaulted audiophile experience in super-Flac format, or with a shitty digital camera on video mode uploaded to youtube or something.  Play the record, record the record, and send it to me!  Let’s celebrate vinyl & share our experiences with this album with the world in what I’m calling…

PROJECT: In the Vinyl Rip Over The Sea!!!

To kick it off, I’ll re-present mine now as…

TSURURADIO Presents… In The Aeroplane Over The Sea

(Full Zip)

Side A

1. The King of Carrot Flowers Pt. One
2. The King of Carrot Flowers Pts. Two and Three
3. In the Aeroplane over the Sea
4. Two-Headed Boy
5. The Fool
6. Holland, 1945
7. Communist Daughter

Side B

1. Oh Comely
2. Ghost
3. (Untitled)
4. Two-Headed Boy Pt. Two

Now… it’s YOUR TURN!  If you don’t own the record, go to your local record shop or Insound or Merge or where ever, just get it and let’s hear YOUR In The Aeroplane Over The Sea vinyl experience!!!

HURRY!  GO NOW!!!!

Cheers,

Tsuru
