Hey music fans! AdventurerNeil checking in here. Don’t have a ton of time or energy right now, but I wanted to share a mixtape that a friend from work gave me a little bit ago. It’s pretty darn good, and I’d promised him I’d make it appear on the old ‘RU. Finding time and hosting has been a bit of a challenge, but I think I got this…    (if not, I’ll mess around with it some more tomorrow).

So without any ado, really…

The TSURURADIO Community Presents…   Logan’s “The First Mix of the Rest of Your Life” Mixtape!!!

——–>Fully zipped here, for her pleasure! :-O

1. Alberta Cross – Old Man Chicago BOOYAH!
2. Annuals – Carry Around BOOYAH!
3. Blitzen Trapper – Furr
4. Delta Spirit – Strange Vine
5. Dr. Dog – Old News
6. Fruit Bats – Tegucigalpa
7. Gomez – How We Operate
8. The Hold Steady – Hostile, Mass.
9. Iron & Wine and Calexico – History of Lovers
10. Midlake – Bandits
11. The Moondoggies – Ain’t No Lord
12. Okkervil River – A Girl in Port
13. Portugal. The Man – Colors
14. Surfer Blood – Take It Easy BOOYAH!
15. TV On The Radio – Crying
16. Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings – Inspiration Information
17. Wintersleep – Weighty Ghost BOOYAH!
18. Wood Brothers – Pray Enough
19. The Wrens – Happy

I like this mix because even though I’m passingly familiar with around half of the artists, I had only heard ONE song on it before.  So new to me = good! This mix also scores very high on my timeliness measure, with plenty of artists that are hot hot hot right now! I’ve placed an inconspicuous “BOOYAH!” next to the songs I like most on it at the moment.

Check the bands out, and if you like them, give them your money!!!  >:-|  I mean, you could give them stocks (which would pay them a dividend) or bikes (which would get them from point A to point B), but maybe they already have those things. Maybe they just want some cash for their work. You know, sweet high-liquidity c-a-s-h. IS THAT TOO MUCH TO ASK!!??!? That’s right. It’s not. Now raid your stash and make with the cash, Nash!

Anyway, it’s tired, and I’m late, so beddy-bye for me. I’ll see you in the not-too-distant future with an artist interview and more epic mixtapes, of course!

Maps & Routes, Mini-Vacations, and TSURURADIO Presents… Eileen I’ll Hum This Tune Forever Mixtape!!!

March 11, 2010

Alright my friends, it’s about time for this bird to take a day off and go see Mama & Sister Tsuru down in Flo-Ri-Da!  But before I do…. RIDE UPDATE!

Did you see that the TSURURADIO SUPER AWESOME NO-FRILLS BIKE RIDE for BREAST CANCER on APRIL 3RD has been updated with Maps & Routes???  That’s right!  The routes are solidified!  Here’s what we’ve got….  We’ve got a lovely riverside bike path 10 miler, a slightly more challenging 20 miler, then the epic 50 miler for the experienced and seasoned riders!  Going to be EPIC!!!!  Are you riding with us? I hope so!!!  If not, then wherever you are, get some friends together, bring $10, $20, whatever a pop, put it in a pot, go for a bike ride and send it to your favourite charity!  That’s the whole point!  Anyone can do this.  You don’t need to wait for a Lance Armstrong to show up, or the American Diabetes Association to put on a ride or a run or a whatever, you can do this anywhere and at any time!  BUT, if you are in Columbus on April 3rd and you got a bike, I sure hope to see you at mine!

Now unfortunately for these gams o’ mine — NOTE: need to sing a parody of Guns & Roses “Sweet Child O’ Mine” but cycling version that goes “Sweet Gams O’ Miiiiiiine” at my next group ride — there won’t be any riding this weekend for me as I’m not about to try to pack my bike for a tiny 3 day trip to Tampa, but seeing the family (including my snowbird Canadian in-laws (two birds, or make that about 5 birds, with one stone!)) more than makes up for it, eh?  I think so too.  Time off tomorrow means a busy day today, so what do you say we get right on to los musica, my little going away present to you, and man it’s a doozy!  2.1 hours, 26 songs of new, less than new, and pretty darn old songs that have gotten stuck in my mind, my ears, and in my heart, all laid out in proper listening order, packaged up, labeled up, zipped up, & uploaded just for you.

*smooch*

So let’s do this! Get ‘er loaded up on her player of choice and have a wonderful weekend!  I’ll see you all on the Twitters, the Facebooks, &/or our Society this weekend but if all that’s not your cup o’ tea, well, then, I guess I’ll see you back here on Monday.  Until then, enjoy as…

Abba Zabba, Testicled, Martha Stewart, Wilbur Sargunaraj, the (hopefully) death of auto-tune, & American Ghetto by Portugal. The Man!

Jesus H. Huffinstuff Portugal. The Man!!!!  Another album?  Seriously?  What is that, 12 in 2 weeks or something???  Yes, my friends, while the world sits around for 2 or 3 years for most bands to collect 2 singles & 10 filler tracks, while I try my very first Abba Zabba bar (undecided if this is “good” or not), Portugal. The Man have put out 5, yeah FIVE, full & glorious proper albums in the past 5 years that I know of — for all I know, there’s probably some solo shit & side-project stuff out there too).

Look, PtM, you are Alaskan, NOT Canadian, you are allowed to slow it down a notch.

Okay, it’s official, Abba Zabba bars suck.  Too much taffy, not enough peanut butter.  Sorry.

It couldn’t be better timing though that American Ghetto popped out yesterday (like the baby on the album cover).  I’ve been on a Censoured Colours (proper Canadian spelling by me) kick for the past week or so (one of the best albums of the 2000s so far) and before I could wax poetically about it, here’s their latest!

In some ways, American Ghetto picks up where the Satanic Satanist left off, in the sense that they are still walking the streets with some giant testicled — hey Firefox, what do you mean “testicled” isn’t a word? — swagger, and, as Martha Stewart might say, “that’s a good thing”.

*must resist Mr. T impersonation*

That’s about where the similarities are, well, that and their distinct vocals, but not much you can do about that except abusing autotune.  Oh, speaking of… now that this:

…is an “intertubal superhighway of love meme” can we please, Please, PLEASE stop with the auto-tune abuse???  Please? Thanks.

Back to Portugal. The Man (sorry guys) & American Ghetto, this time out I think our boys must’ve been inspired by the 6 or 30 or whatever months of darkness up there in Alaska as there’s just something “night time” & sexy about this album.  Just got this late night, underground groove going on that is, as the kids say, “teh sexors”.  I listen to “The Dead Dog”, and I can see walking into a poorly florescent-lit urban apartment complex basement where a select group of sexy types are working up a sweat, wiggly & squirming around to the music — all in slow motion, mind you.

But… I’m prone to an active imagination.

01. The Dead Dog
02. Break
03. 60 Years
04. All My People
05. 1000 Years
06. Fantastic Pace
07. The Pushers Party
08. Do What We Do
09. Just a Fool
10. Some Men
11. When the War Ends
