We here at TSURURADIO Industries are super busy looking behind — HA! Get it? — compiling & building our epic 2010 most awesomest post (hint: my photo just above this post). And, as you know, when we build our most awesomest albums of whatever year, we don’t just give you a list, we give you an accompanying mixtape AND, this time, another little surprise to boot!

Are you as excited as I am? No? Well then, dude… There’s nothing I can do for you. Anywhosaldoosals….. Until tomorrow’s ridiculousness, how about some viddy vids to get us through and around the day, eh? It’s a small consolation prize, but it will have to do…..

TSURURADIO Re-Presents… Leaving New York, Never Easy Mixtape!!!

Photography by Me!

Well friends, gotta head up to good ol’ New York today, pop in, hit a trade show all day, get to the hotel, work on work emails, if there’s anything left in me, go to a Wolf Parade show, get up the next morning, hit the trade show again, then fly back home tomorrow night!  OOF!  Busy two days!!!

So, not sure of the posting situation here over that time, BUT wanted to leave you with a little something that was inspired by the last time I did this exact same trip!  A little podcast that became a sweet little mixtape of the flight there, some sounds of NY, some REALLY REALLY bad poetry, and, of course, the flight back home!  I still listen to this one periodically and outside the REALLY REALLY bad poetry, I gotta say, I still love it!  For all you who missed it as a podcast (TSURUCAST No. 9 to be specific, that’s why it has a “theme song”) & the first time we re-presented it as a mixtape, here it is again!

HOORAY!

Now, I’ve got me a new little phone (Sprint dropped me a Samsung Moment, but more on that later this week), so if you want to stay all connected and shit, don’t be shy, don’t be a cute little wallflower, this is the internetaltubular sensations, you either speak up or it’s like you don’t even exist!  I got 3 locales where we can “hook up” non-sexually:

Our Society

See ya in one or more of ‘em!  Okay, it’s about time to go wake up Baby to drive my gnarly butt to the aero-port, so without further adieu, have a great day everyone, & a great tomorrow!  We’ll be talking to you soon as…

All photography by Baby!!! Thanks sweetie! I love you!

Happy Friday to you de’re!  Man are you in for a treatsies today…. Something rare and special out here in musical bloggy blog land, I hope you are ready, because if not, you may just crap yer pants.  You see, a little bit ago, on the twitters & later on the tumblrs, I was fortunate to make an the acquaintance of fellow music freakazoid & Columbus resident Katie over at HEAVY PERCUSSION. Now that in and of itself is pretty awesome-o as she is pretty awesome-o, all it takes is one little gander over at her site and, outside her incredible music taste, you also find, oh, I’d say about…. 1,032,941 or so interviews with bands!

How does she do it?

No clue.  My only live (i.e. recorded then transposalnated) interview with the infamous Super Desserts (infamously delicious that is) was about 40 MS Word pages long before I was able to edit it down to 38.

ANYWHOSALDOSALS…. To make a long story short (too late!), a bit o’ twitterin’, a bit o’ emailerin’, a bit o’ mixtaperin’, a bit o’ hangerouterin’ and before you know it, Katie & I had built us a sweet ass mixtape collaboration!!!  Here we are discussing the finer points of our mixtape awesomeness…

Awesome.  ;)

Mixtapes are a precious thing to me, collabo mixtapes are just dirty with all it’s intermingling and whatnots.  The way we did this was, we each took a side, me Side A, Katie Side B, we each got about 40 minutes to bring the heat, new, old, local, not so much, whatever our little blogger hearts desired, and the end results (if I do say so myself) are pretty fucking awesome!

Word of the day apparently? “Awesome”.

Katie, thank you so much for being such a good sport and thank you x1000 for making a mixtape with me!!!  Now, my dear readers, it’s your turn to a) push play down below and soundtrack what is hopefully a wonderful Friday and b) head over to HEAVY PERCUSSION and get yerself one hell of an amazing blog to follow along with and, as always, if you hear something you like, go buy the damn thing as….

I’ve got a mild fascination (with dancing, banjos, and REGINA!!!)

April 13, 2010

This post is mostly a thinly veiled/disguised/masked/mustachioed post to test out some mad youtube embedding skillz…    and here we go!

I’ve got a mild fascination for collectors dancers! SO FUN!

And also, I have a mild fascination for banjos! And hustling places by bike, of course.

…Are these songs starting to sound familiar? Good! Then you’ve been doing your Tsuru homework!

How’s about this one? Pretty darn great – I always *HEART* me some Regina!

…Yeah. I think that’s enough cute for now!

Oh wait. I was wrong! Lovers of the vast world of mixtapes will definitely not want to miss such an enchanting website AS THIS ONE RIGHT HERE. It’s like Napoleon Dynamite mated with Juno, who subsequently mated with Tsuru!! WEE!!!

TSURURADIO Presents… MIXTAPES WEEK!!! I Want To Be Your American Idol by, uh, me!!!

April 11, 2010

Well, I said I’d try to get my Crane Buddy’s mixtape up if I had the time to conclude our quite epic MIXTAPES WEEK and, well, here we are!!!  I’ll try to be as coherent as possible as 1) after riding a beautiful 101 mile at the 38th Woodstock Budget Tour bike ride and 2) Paris-Roubaix is on in French in the bottom corner of my screen, I’d be lying if I didn’t tell you I have cycling on my mind.

I’m pretty achy today, but it’s great to get that first century done, get over the hump — mental mostly, but physical too, though I must say, physically, the easiest 100 miles I’ve ridden yet, very strong like polar bear!!!

Anywhosaldoosal….. It’s Sunday, a beautiful Sunday, and we plan on taking advantage of it, so let’s get going with the good stuff, the tunes that will be soundtracking this gorgeous day ahead of us, our mixtape for gahrace, I Want To Be Your American Idol!!!

Photograph: Me – Model: Claudia

I really had fun with this one.  First I, literally, threw in a random hour of music, almost with my eyes closed, then pushed play to see what we had, to see if there was a commonality in the cards that the “hands of fate” had dealt.  And there was!  FUN!  Between Old 97s, REM, The Format, I found myself singing along, at the top of my lungs, just having a good old time, imagining myself in front of millions of people singing some of my favourite songs.

From there, we started to fill in the gaps, put it in the right order and before I knew it, I found myself with over 2 hours of music, flowing up and up, and then down and up, new songs making their way in, a few more, then some more older ones, and then something would pop in my head and I’d just HAVE to hear it, then it HAD to go on the mixtape (see: Len & Michael Jackson), and *POOF* out went one song and *BLOOP* in went a different.  After about a week & a half, this is what remained.

Call me proudish or egotastic, but I love it.  Burned it, made a cover, shipped it with some other local hand-made goodies & some candy to gahrace for Crane’s Day, and now, after her receipt and listening, it’s time to get up here for you.  So, let’s shut the fuck up and get on with it, eh?  I hope you enjoy as…

The Great Hair Lip Experiment of 2010 & Pigeons by Here We Go Magic

March 18, 2010
By

Photography by Audrey A.

Well my friends, it’s been about 1 week into The Great Hair Lip Experiment of 2010.  What?  No clue what I’m talking about, that’s understandable.  You see, last week, I came to a conclusion that with the combination of A) moustaches somehow retaining their popularity, B) my curiosity to see just how horrible I look with a moustache, and C) that I’m only a few years away from turning (gulp) 40, that this may be the last opportunity I have to attempt to grow some lip hair…. Because, let’s be honest, once I’m “old” and especially once I’m old & the trend is quiet dead, I’m going to looking like a seriously pervy old man with a moustache and honestly, I rather just be a pervy old man when I’m that old.

SO.  Starting last week, I’ve PUT DOWN the shackles of shaving and let my individually thick & black, but rather patchy in group form facial hair freak flag fly!  The results of 1 week?  Here you go, photo taken just moments ago while walking outside:

As you can see, and as expected, the cheeks are looking pretty pathetic, but the chin & lip are coming in quite nicely.  For now, the plan is to just let it all go, making me look like I just got back from a 3 week long bender, until the lip and chin are long enough to build the half-douche aka the full-Depp.

Hot diggity there’s some serious photoshopping on his face there…..  You see, Johnny Depp, like me, is not able to grow the connectors between the stache and the chin, aka, the full goatee or full-douche, thereby creating the half-douche or full-Depp.  You following along or do you need your calculators?

Of course, not even the full-douche can compare the triple-whammy-douche-a-rama!

But for that, you’d need chest hair and sadly (or thankfully, according to Baby), I have 3, literally.  I named them Bob, Billy, and Beaner.

Anywhosaldosal… That’s phase 2 (phase 1 is the “3 week bender” look).  Phase 3, of course, is the moustache in all it’s glory.  There are so many options to chose from, where does one begin?

Some are beyond my reach, such as the “gringo” and the “trucker”, my face just won’t do that (I’m not a hairy man).  But I like the idea of all three on the left side, with the possible final goal of the “connoisseur”?  My face hairs are very thick and course, so that bad boy’s going to require some serious wax.

Well, I’ll keep you abreast of the progress (hehehe…. “breast”), I’ll most like go nuts one day and shave it all off… Who knows, we’ll see!

Now, I’m not sure of their lip hair status, but I’ve definitely got my metaphorical “porn star” on with Pigeons by Here We Go Magic playing in my head!

Image

Though, if you stare at the album cover long enough, I think you can see a “jihad jack” on one of the creepy faces.

What a delicious soup-strainer of an album this is!  Just beautifully atmospheric music that ranges from rich old-school (I’m thinking early 80s maybe??) dance-ish pop of “Collector” to the near Pink Floyd-y “Land Of Feeling”!

Funny, now that I just wrote that, I’m suddenly getting an 80′s feel throughout this bad boy, no, not in the cheesy Top 40′s way, something certainly more full, rich, deep, and authentic.  I’m having a helluva time tagging it all in my head — maybe the moustache is distracting me?

Well, regardless, it’s definitely pulling me back to a different time and certainly a different Tsuru.  Huh. Now, that’s not to say this is some 80s re-hash, it’s not, there’s just a haze/vibe/aesthetic/light film coating that is pulling my brain back.  For example… Listening to “Surprise” right now but visually my mind is on a very, very old memory of a very young me watching Billy Joel’s “Pressure” on a very young cable television over 20 years ago at my dad & stepmom’s house.  They sound nothing alike, yet there I am suddenly remember people & places that I haven’t thought about in years.  Funny how the brain works, eh?

Oh and hey, look at that, just saw on their tweeter twatters that P4K gave them a “awesome-O new track” rating for “Collector”!  Congrats guys, may your mp3/m4a sales be bountiful!

Okay, enough jibber-jabber, time to go pick up some moustache wax and hell, maybe even a bit of Brylcreem!

You.. you just click play and enjoy!
