Can we talk about The Rip Tide by Beirut?

Allo my friends… you got a second? Good. Can we talk about this new album by Beirut called The Rip Tide? Good!

Oh my… I like Beirut, but like a few of you out there in internetland, they were a band to take in doses, perfect for a mixtape, or a couple songs back to back. Hell, they were perfect for the end of our wedding mixtape. So, word of the new Beirut album floating aboot and “East Harlem” making it’s lovely way into our lovely hearts, I took it all with a grain of pepper and maybe one of salt. Will this be another beautiful yet a whole lot to handle eastern block style music?

Only time (and a leak) will tell and leak it did. 9 little songs, barely clocking in over a half an hour later I/we were smitten. But, it was a chill night over laptop speakers filled with arts & crafts, so how would it fair with a proper ass listen???

Oh me oh my.

Beautiful… sublime… and non-stop repeat. Its Beirut through and through but there’s a hint of easy to digest “pop sensibility” — you like that phrase, eh? — that helps the medicine go down and I’m eating this shit up! Yeah. Quite lovely. I found a couple soundcloud uploads that are probably mostly illegal so enjoy!

Then go get your hands on a copy, eat it up yum, THEN almost 2 months from now, go buy it. I’m thinking this will be the sex and total tits on vinyl and you should too.

To say I’m excited for this album is an understatement. Then, each new song that seems to be popping up randomly in my consciousness just keeps adding to the excitement. Must calm down. Expectations can be a bitch when it comes to new albums from bands you already love…..

Some Times: we do it in the dark ft. Dark Dark Dark

Hey everyone. Fucking listen to this band.

That’s all this post is going to boil down to so I figured I’d just get it all out in the air now.

Here’s some more about it: Dark Dark Dark is a beautiful creation that I wish I had stumbled upon earlier. I was spinning shit down at KSPC on my show last friday when I spotted this album. Now, it actually came out in February, but in case you missed it like I did a few months ago, here’s a second chance to be punched in the face with it! Wild Go, the band’s sophomore album, is an entrancing swirl of exotic-sounding tracks, blending in hints of Balkan tunes and soaring chamber choirs. If Beirut and Elliott Smith were brothers, Dark Dark Dark is their hot younger sister. Or maybe older. Or maybe like, Elliott Smith is the older bro and then Beirut is the younger bro. Yeah that sounds right. To be honest I’m only throwing Elliott in there because I can’t listen to the first 30 seconds of “Daydreaming” without seeing Figure 8 swirls in my eyelids. That piano, man.

I supposed I should also mention here that accordion is my favorite. Thing. Favorite thing. And fortunately there is just the right amount of accordion on this album, adding the perfect dose of Parisian romance to lead singer Nona Marie Invie’s mature and elegant vocals, particularly on “Celebrate”. And the snapping on “In Your Dreams”? WHAT UP!

What I’m trying to say is that Wild Go is a fabulous album that you ought to check out. That shit is dreamy.

& Here’s a track and quick vid for ya, in case you want immediate gratification. Which you do.

TSURURADIO Re-Presents… Leaving New York, Never Easy Mixtape!!!

Photography by Me!

Well friends, gotta head up to good ol’ New York today, pop in, hit a trade show all day, get to the hotel, work on work emails, if there’s anything left in me, go to a Wolf Parade show, get up the next morning, hit the trade show again, then fly back home tomorrow night!  OOF!  Busy two days!!!

So, not sure of the posting situation here over that time, BUT wanted to leave you with a little something that was inspired by the last time I did this exact same trip!  A little podcast that became a sweet little mixtape of the flight there, some sounds of NY, some REALLY REALLY bad poetry, and, of course, the flight back home!  I still listen to this one periodically and outside the REALLY REALLY bad poetry, I gotta say, I still love it!  For all you who missed it as a podcast (TSURUCAST No. 9 to be specific, that’s why it has a “theme song”) & the first time we re-presented it as a mixtape, here it is again!

HOORAY!

Now, I’ve got me a new little phone (Sprint dropped me a Samsung Moment, but more on that later this week), so if you want to stay all connected and shit, don’t be shy, don’t be a cute little wallflower, this is the internetaltubular sensations, you either speak up or it’s like you don’t even exist!  I got 3 locales where we can “hook up” non-sexually:

Our Society

See ya in one or more of ‘em!  Okay, it’s about time to go wake up Baby to drive my gnarly butt to the aero-port, so without further adieu, have a great day everyone, & a great tomorrow!  We’ll be talking to you soon as…
