TSURURADIO Presents… The 25 Most Awesomest Tsururific Albums Of 2010 with Accompanying Mixtape (and Video)!!!!

Photography by ME!

Well oh well oh well… here we are, once again. at the “end” of another exciting and fun and musically awesome year! What? You don’t think this was a “good year for music”? You know what we always say about that right?

If you ain’t finding music your digging, you ain’t digging deep enough.

With the sheer (shear?) wealth of albums out there, from the label releases to the self-released albums on the bandcamps and blogs and world wide intertubals of love canals, I firmly with all my heart & penis that it’s impossible not to find, if you look, at least 10 albums that fill your ears & brain wires with love & joy & happy & WHEEE!

Because, as I see the list popping up, the suggestions for us here at TSURURADIO, the blips on the Facebooks & Twitterins, even after all the music we’ve talked about, shared, discussed, hated, etc, it’s barely & narry a tip in the metaphorical vagina or butthole — depending on your preferred orifice, my philosophy? There are no bad orifices.

This is a BIG post, taking days to write, written in Notepad, in my notepad, on scraps of paper, old receipts, the back of my hand, and on the right side of a witch’s teet, so how about we shut the fuck up with this intro jibber-jabber and get on with it as…

TSURURADIO Presents…

The 25 Most Awesomest Tsururific Albums Of 2010 with Accompanying Mixtape (and Video)!!!!

25? Yeah, not intentional, built a mixtape of all my favourites, counted them up, found we had 25 albums. That’s our most even number yet! Inching ever so closer to the mainstream! Oh noes! But, clocking in at #25, the mammer-jammer that just made the cut goes to…

.

.

25. Allo Darlin’ by Allo Darlin’

Twee boy-girl pop and a nod to Pinkerton? Yeah, I’m in. This sacchrine sweet album of polaroids, love, chili, and what is most likely (I mean, it kinda has to be) a ukelele pulled my tender heart strings and gave me three cavities! But I still love it…

.

24. The Violent Blue by Electric President

A bit eeeeelectronical for my normal happy trail, but there was something smooth & easy, kinda like a Sunday morning, about this. Like a late winter ride of glorious harmonies & beautiful melodies, sun still setting early, the sky thick with the colour of grey…. Mmm

.

23. Volume Two by She & Him

No-brainer. Imma zooey-sexual.

Can’t help it. If she put an album out of her and Will Ferrell as Buddy singing “It’s Cold Outside” 10 times, it would probably still make the list. Sorry. Get over it. Her voice and her songs bring a smile to my face.

.

22. Wilderness Heart by Black Mountain

There’s an old school Stone Temple Pilots flavoured with strong female vocals meets some alt.country & blues meets classic rock bad assness that douche-nuggets like Kid Rock wishes they could wish to wish to try to want to wish to make.

Yeah! Snaps, indeed!

In your face!

.

21. Avi Buffalo by Avi Buffalo

Young little whipper-snappers make a gem of an album, including what may be many people’s song of the year, “What’s It In For?”! It’s a diverse album that seems to live in the treble range — high pitched voices and lots of chiming guitars.

Time for the slightly condensending music cricket comment, “I predict great things for this band in the future!” But yeah, I really can’t wait to see where these guys go next!

.

20. Flamingo by Brandon Flowers

Indie-cred…. DESTROYED!!!!

Yeah? Well.. EAT ME! Brandon Flowers goes Neil Diamond and I love this Vegas-inspired cheeseball!

.

19. Oooh La La by Crash Test Dummies

Indie-cred restored? I mean, is Crash Test dummies so post-mainstream, so post-US-one-hit-wonder, that they are now super-indie? There’s certainly less mainstream than Arcade Fire, right? Or am I just another aging fan boy?

Brad gets a bunch of children’s instruments, gets Ellen, and makes a beautiful and kinda bittersweet album. Keep on trucking your baritone whiskey drinking Canuck!

.

18. Meet Me At Muster Station by PS I Love You

Indie-cred officially restored.A new find, via Shoey, a new love affair…. a noisy rock love affair that is… will it be a love to remember (shouldn’t they all?) or one I’ll soon forget? Maybe it’s the newness, the sweaty discovery that permeates my ranking?

Who cares?

Great fucking album.

.

17. Paul’s Tomb: A Triumph by Frog Eyes

Oh my. What an album! As yelpy and sporatic and spastic and bombastic and mood-fluctuation-inducing as you would expect from Frog Eyes. These guys are on a different plane two dimensions away from Sunset Rubdown, keeping them in the shadows, out of popularities sight. If I can steal a cliche as it’s so literally true, these guys march to a different drummer and it’s unreal.

.

16. Teen Dream by Beach House

Speaking of “unreal”, with this beauty from Beach House we fall face-first into a gorgeous dream land… If not forgotten — seriously, in blogland years, this came out years ago! — this should be on the top of many lists. It’s daydream escapism at it’s finest…

.

15. Beauregard by Pepper Rabbit

Speaking of dreamy…. what about the organic dreamscapes of Pepper Rabbit? (Ir)regardless of how accurate that description may be, this is just a beautiful album… From the opening notes that sound as if they are being played down the hall of a long-abandoned house, to what is one of my personal songs of the year, “Older Brother”, which sounds like a memory buried in a dream, Pepper Rabbit crafted something special.

Hey… can I say “dream” one more time?

DREAM!

.

14. Big Echo by Morning Benders

Though we LOVED their last album, it was this one that got them all the blog love out there, gave them momentum, and made them a point of conversation amongst all of us in Indieland!

Good for them!

These guys keep their big fat hair toe dipped in the bucket of the past, then balance it with living quite solidly in the present! You like that? I said absolutely nothing useful in that sentence! Hooray for music cricketing!!!

.

13. Congratulations by MGMT

Oh MGMT, how you pissed off the critics and your dancin’ friends by going from making a dance record that enjoyed a couple songs off of to a trippy psychedelic gem that is fucking amazing. Follow your heart guys, not the critics, you may not find mainstream success, you’ll find plenty of personal happiness & tons of artistic integrity, and, in my book, that’s worth more than all the P4K 10.0s in the world…..

.

These blurbs are funny… Okay, let’s move on, time for a “big ticket” item!

.

12. High Violet by The National

Great album, eh? From the first hey-is-this-a-bad-stream-rip-sounding “Terrible Love” I was hooked. But it was the roadtripping (through Ohio, of course) “Bloodbuzz Ohio” that got me listening in the first place. The emotional music with the dry Morphine-esque voice juxtaposition — Ooo… big word! Look, it’s The National. For many, if Suburbs isn’t number 1, this will be. National fans and Arcade Fire fans have a lot in common, you emotional bastards!

*smooch*

.

11. Life Is Sweet! Nice To Meet You by Lightspeed Champion

Holy shit, where you been LC? I avoided the hell out of you with your first album (sorry, that album cover just screamed “Hey Tsuru, RUUUN!” but man, was I wrong. And with Life Is Sweet! I was even wrongerer! Your over the top theatrics pulled at my heartstrings and opened the curtain of my wrongheadness to your amazingly talented world! Wonderful!

.

Holy shit guys! We are at Number 10???? Wow! Let’s keep this mother truckin’, eh?

.

10. Heart Of My Own by Basia Bulat

Raw, organic, passionate, Bulat and her quavering powerful voice created a folk gem! Now, I’m not talking tender and quiet introspective folk (though there is some of that in there), think more like Irish/Scottish folk, except from Canada, which can fly at you faster than you wish you can river dance.

Stunning album. Punches you in the gut stunning.

.

9. I Learned The Hard Way by Sharon Jones & Dap-Kings

MS… SHARON JONES! MS… SHARON JONES!!! MS!!! SHARON!!! JONES!!!!!

.

8. The Suburbs by The Arcade Fire

Yeah… I lived in the suburbs a little during some parts of my childhood and again during parts of my adult life. Suburban kids think they got it tough, “FML”, etc, and all that. Hate your boring parents, rebel, move out, “straighten up”, become your parents, time to eat turkey, watch football, and hang up the lights, rinse, and repeat. It’s tradition, BLAH!

Arcade Fire captured it pretty good, wouldn’t you say? I do… Well, except that “Month Of May” song. Oof. Totally kept this out of the top 5, to be honest.

.

7. Sunset Psalms by The Shivers

Oh man, this one took me by surprise… read some blip, sounded interesting, had no idea it would be this quirky Lou-Reed-esque bluesy-awesomeness. There’s a swagger about these guys, dripping of sex and probably some drugs, the good drugs, the looove drugs. I don’t know but man, yeah….

.

6. Forgiveness Rock Record by Broken Social Scene

Big bands can make a big mess of an album, Broken Social Scene somehow has the ability to do this yet somehow make it all work. They revel in the chaos of 4,000 musicians “doing their thing” and I revel in their revelry!

WOOT!!!

.

Top 5! Getting there! Here we go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! La la la la la………….

.

5. La La Land by Plants And Animals

Yeah, I’m obsessed with “Bye, Bye, Bye”, it’s showed up on how many mixtapes now? But I don’t LOOOOVE their last album, I like it sure, but it’s not love love, you know? So though hopes were high, expectations weren’t when La La Land came to my metaphorical doorstep, but holy spring-rollies! From the awesomely clumsy “Tom Cruz” to the 1-2 punch of “Swinging Bells” & “American Idol” to the end, it’s got a epic classic rock capital-A Album rocker groove to it that just never lets up! So good…

.

4. The Sleep Tape by The High Wire

Nervous strings start us off on the dreamy journey filled lulling beats & rhythms, enveloping harmonies, whispering vocals, and a clustercuss of imagery that have gripped our minds since we first heard this on a whim (I liked the album art).

.

3. July Flame by Laura Veirs

There is only one word I can think of to describe this album we first heard way back in aught nine when it quietly drip-dropped into our ears. It’s that kinda douchey music cricket kinda word, but man is it every “apropos”! This album is…….. Sublime.

.

2. Together by New Pornographers

Ah, I remember when this leaked… long before I got my aging grubby hands on the vinyl with that glorious 12″ x 12″ artwork (oh my), a friend of mine who shall remain anonymous (as google searching for this was blocked) had sent me his copy, track by track, via email. So, as I received each track, in order, I listened.

Two words, my friends: Goosebumps & grins.

From the opening strings Duh-nuh-nuh to the final epic conclusion I was smitten. Add in some horns, tons of Neko and Dan and all the other power-orchestral pop ingrediants and oh me oh my!!!!

.

But… as much as I love this album, one album stood above, stood tall, dominating, crushing the competition! So, without further adieu, our number one album is…

1. Light Chasers by Cloud Cult!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, Light Chasers is our No. 1 album of the year, top dog, head cheese (ew)!

For the 2nd year in a row, a concept album has taken top spot, taken my heart, and literally blew my mind. Concept albums are tough enough to pull off, but without a full narrative, just the idea of chasing the light, chasing happiness, chasing a freedom, from sadness and misery, from the herded life we plop ourselves in, by opening our eyes and our potentials, and doing it in a way that is at times bombastic, at times tranquil, and at times stunning… Yeah, after about a week or so with this album, I knew I had my top pick, that every challenger that was to come after it had a tough, if not impossible, battle ahead of it…

All this INSPITE of the fact they won’t release albums on vinyl. Yeah, I know, environmental stuff, but man, it’s vinyl! Vinyl is forever and in a good way! Oh well, as los French say, kest la vye… or is that say la vee? ;)

Congratulations Cloud Cult! You win!!!! Expect your completely recyclable, made from recylced LPs made from recycle vinyl shipped in recycled boxes in recyclable trucks to your recycled house any day now!

WOO!  That was fun!  How about a round of applause to all our winners!!!

Nice… nice..

Crane’s Day Mixtape Exchange Expose!!!–>tsurucmmntyprsts.. AdventurerNeil’s “This Time, Baby, I’ll Be Bulletproof” Mixtape!!!

Hey Cranes!

It’s Neil, ya know, long-lost AdventurerNeil, checkin’ in with ya to say ‘howdy!’, and share some muzak (mmm…sweet, sweet muzak). As you may know, I enjoy my music like the cookie monster enjoys his dough…
C is for cookie... good enough for me!

You guys are nazis, man!

So yeah, sorry for being all sorts of wicked-absent and never posting… sad story: right as the last mixtapes week was kickin’ off, my computer went kaput. Since then I’ve been busy, sure, but mostly just complacent and lazy. Boo complacent and lazy! >:| My computer is still broken, but I finally decided to hijack a roommate’s computer or two, and blamo, a few searched-up gmail passwords later and I’m in bloggerin’ heaven! Lesson? Where there’s a will there’s a way, yo! Man, I really really missed this place… I’m really quite happy with the kinds of moments that are possible on TSURURADIO!

A whiles back, Tsuru posted and invited all you fine folks to come on over to the society and engage in a little Crane’s Day Mixtape Exchange action… wellsir, 20+ of us birds swarmed and signed up and exchanged all sorts of fun goodies!

(A major shoutout goes to Story, the mistress of society awesomeness, for organizing it all and having patience with my lack of checking-in, patience with my extremely-late mixtape, and for sending me an awesome package!)

Welp, I’ve been itching to share my mixtape with the world at large (I never was good at keeping my mixtapes “for your eyes only”… gotta share that s#%t!). It’s basically a massive homage to the awesomness that is TSURURADIO…. which is to say, I owe credit to the blog and society for 85%ish of songs that appear on this mix. Regular readers might be sadfaced at how familiar the tracks look. But so what! I love them, and they sound damn good together, and include much of my favorite music from 2010… so what more can ya ask for?!

Anywho, less chit-chat, more rock!

The TSURURADIO Community Presents… A Special Crane’s Day Mixtape Exchange Event… With Lots Of Capitalized Words And Suspense-y Anticipation… AdventurerNeil’s “This Time, Baby, I’ll Be Bulletproof” Mixtape!!!

1. Colin Munroe – Bulletproof Monster (La Roux X Nicki Minaj Revox)
2. Hudson Mohawke – Rising 5

6. Wintersleep – Trace Decay
7. Dominant Legs – About My Girls

16. Small Black – Photojournalist
17. Avi Buffalo – Coaxed
18. The High Wire – It’s No Secret
19. Goddamn Electric Bill – Ten Thousand Years
20. Ocean Age – Dalvik Tide

I like this mix. A lot. Tons of electronic, lots of pop, some rock, a hint of twee, a smidgen of post-rock, and many many healthy dashes of pure, unadultered longing
…that just bleeds through in every song. It follows my basic mixtape formula… start like a lion, end like a bedtime story… RAWR!Zzzzz… (don’t tell anyone my secret formula). I hope you enjoy the living bajeezus out of it! :D

Over and out for now!

-Neil

PS. What a freaking ridiculously amazingly abundant year for music, eh???! Thanks to goodness we have papa Tsuru to help us enjoy the new stuff and share it… I’ve been looking forward to end-of-year madness ever since it happened last year!! Hours and hours and hours of new great epic stuff…! Or as Tsuru might say…

Aw snap! Tsuru’s gone and I gotta do something! The TSURURADIO Community presents…!

Well, with the Crane and Baby flying around over Canadia, delivering large sticks to their respective nests, I decided it’d be kinda stellar to do what’s known in the music blogging world as… “NOT DROP THE EMMER-EFFING BALL WHILE THE BOSS IS GONE!!!”…

And I was gonna review all sorts of new, fun shit… really, I was… but then I was attacked by a bunch of beautiful-but-annoying cottonwood tree-sperm, and some good old-fashioned summertime lonely to boot!

Besides, I’m usually a few days/weeks/months behind all my other crazy peeps in delving into the new muzaks. So instead, I decided to share a little sec-a-ret with you.

Ever seen that one movie? I believe it’s called, “The Truman Show” with that one Carey guy. Well, at one point he bumps into this fine young thang at the library (hawt!) and she’s wearing a little button that says..

Well, my secret is that… are you ready for this?? I know how it’s going to end!!

Please stand up with me and give a little hop as we do this thing…!

The TSURURADIO Community Presents… AdventurerNeil’s “How’s it going to END?? Well, We End Up Together and I’ll Take Care Of You If You Ask Me To!!!” Mixtape!!! MIXMIXMIX

1. Beach House – Take Care
2. The New Pornographers – We End Up Together
3. Avi Buffalo – Remember Last Time
4. Flaming Lips – Approaching Pavonis Mons By Balloon (Utopia Planitia)
5. Her Space Holiday – Manic Expressive [Exit]
6. Dntel – Last Songs
7. Dirty Projectors – Useful Chamber
8. Ben Kweller – Falling
9. Yann Tiersen – La Valse Des Montres
10. Devendra Banhart – The Body Breaks
11. Yo La Tengo – Take Care
12. The Shins – Those To Come
13. Jimmy Eat World – Goodbye Sky Harbor

Astute students of indie muzaks will note that most of these songs are the ending songs of their respective albums. There’s quite a bit of magic to be found in last songs! It was somewhat difficult to make a coherent mixtape out of last songs, but I feel like I did a decent job of making a memorable journey for ya.
I still can’t shake the feeling that I left out a few essentials, though… if you care to, please comment and let me know what your favorite ends to your favorite albums are!!

PS. If my bandwidth gets all pillaged, either mediafire it or come back tomorrow and try yerself ‘agin!

PPS. More mixtapes to come. (if you go to the dance with me)

Epic failures & gettin’ back into new school as the TSURURADIO Community Presents… Mixitup’s Summer Mixtape!!!

Well, I don’t use this phrase often but the Tour de Cure turned into what can only be called a #EpicFAIL.

First off, let me say thank you.  Because of all of you, we raised $750 for diabetes research.  THAT is pretty awesome, in my opinion, especially considering how little we pushed it this year (I just wasn’t 100% that I’d be able to do it).  Again, thank you!  Okay, on to the disaster… I’ll keep this relatively brief, as I really would like to put this behind me now.  It goes a little something like this:

Saturday morning, wake up at 4am.  Examine my phone, do some math to make sure I actually HAD to wake up at 4am, decide to just HTFU and get up.  Coffee, internet, ride prepping, relaxing, etc. All good, sleepy, but good.  5:20am, ready to go, grab my back pack, hop in my bike, ride over to Tuck’s. Get there, throw the bike in his truck, toss in his, we head out, getting to the TdC at 6:15ish.  The 100 milers leave at 6:30, perfect.  Take the bikes out of the truck and guess what.  My bike tire was flat.

fuck.

Take it to the mechanic, give him one of my tubes, have him change it while I go register.  Registration problem, they only had me for $75 (not the $750) which is under the minimum, meaning I need “special assistance”.  Well, the “special assistance” lady was too busy talking to another volunteer than willing to help me, but once she was ready, she had me fill out special forms, then sent me to another table.  They had me fill out a special form to get my number then sent me to another table where I could get my map.

Go back to the truck, pin the number on, throw map, food, extra tube, air, etc, etc, in my jersey, then run over and get my bike.  By now the 100 milers are long gone.  After a bathroom break, Tuck and I set out.

Map says to follow double arrows.  We see some and we do. Turns out those were the wrong double arrows, our’s were somewhere down the road (and yeah, they are all the same colour).  So, unbeknownst to us, we are following the wrong arrows and then it rains a little, then it thunders, then it lightnings & thunders more, we are out in the middle of open fields, then it rains harder and harder and harder and thunder and lightning and so on, oh my!  We see a shelter after we pass a small town & duck in, check the map and realize we are, oh, about 20 some-odd miles off course from the 100 mile route.

fuuuuuuck.

We wait out the rain, it relaxes, we decide to try to find our way back, rain kicks back in, we are shivering, freezing, soaked, lightning, cars honking & splashing, lost.  Duck into a self-serve car wash and say “fuck it”.  Get back on our bikes, and find our way back to the truck, no pomp, no circumstance, no cowbells, just dry truck and drive home. Just a disaster.

The end.

What a mess.  I still have the map, so we plan on doing the 100 mile route this weekend or next.  No registration, no set times, no support, just do our ride.  Done.

Yeah.  Not a good morning.  The rest of the day would be great, graduation party, yard sales, new tattoo, TsuruBride got her hair did, and Sunday was relaxing as all hell, but it’s going to be a long time before I forget about Saturday morning.  A long time.

BUT!  I found something to help!  I headed into our wonderful society of music geeks and found that mixitup made an absolutely wonderful summer-themed mixtape adding a cutie in a striped bikini as cover art too boot!

Doesn’t she look happy?

I can always count on our little society to, not only lift my ass up, but also bring back into the present.  Last week was old school week and after diving head first into my past, I found myself quite comfortably living there over the weekend.  Kinda hard to discuss new music when you are just trying to get your old REM on, eh?  Well, fortunately for me, mixitup brought the goodness, grabbing me by the ears and pulling me right back into modern world with this wonderful gem!  Here’s what she had to say.

While summer doesn’t technically begin until mid-June, it’s become something of an American tradition that Memorial Day weekend marks the kick-off of summer time. Here’s one I thought you might enjoy……

Short & sweet… The mixtape?  Absolutely perfect, just what I needed to start over, to bring me back, to brighten my day and start this week off right!  So how about we get this bad boy on!

TSURURADIO Presents… MIXTAPES WEEK: [ ...Living, Breathing, Dying... ] by nelso!!!

Oh my, what a week we’ve had so far, eh?  Honestly, I didn’t know if I’d be able to keep MIXTAPES WEEK going all week!  So many hyperlinks… so little time!  But alas, here we are, Friday, and we’ve got yet another amazing mixtape to share with you.  Also, waiting in the wings for my Crane Buddy to receive her Crane’s Day gift is the mixtape I made for her!  It’s a doozy that I plan on sharing with you ASAP, but she gets dibs on listening first, sorry — wouldn’t be all that special if I let you go before her, right?

Right.

Okay, as much as I hate to keep this short, it’s looking to be a nutty day today, it’s chilly outside, Baby’s sick, and dammit, I’m going to get a little lunchtime ride in to spin some ache out of my legs before a big (maybe 100 miler) ride tomorrow!   So, let’s get to the good stuff, eh?  And by good stuff, of course I’m talking about [...Living, Breathing, Dying...] by nelso!

“Ahh life is all about balance, this mix has balance, in tempo, up and down, its living, its breathing, and eventually dying…”  says nelso, so true, about life, about this mixtape, about damn near everything.  I will also add that life is about lines, it’s just one line after another sometimes, isn’t?  Line up at the stop light, line up in the lane on the interstate, line up at the exit, line up to park, line up for some coffee, line up to pay, line up to even leave!  Ugh.

Sorry, I digressed there, I really hate lines.

Fortunately, this mixtape is NOT about lines.  It’s at times whimsical, then fun, then slow & introspective, sometimes a interesting mix of all of the above, like “Whale In The Night” by Firs.  As nelso said, it ebbs, it flows, it’s up & down, as is all things, and it’s quite brilliant.  A wonderful conclusion to a rather ebb & flow kinda week if you ask me!  Thank you so much nelso! So what say you?  Shall we get ‘er on?   Yeah, I think so too.

Peanut’s Playground: Traditional role patterns (or the last remains of the past)

Trend (trnd) - n.

  1. The general direction in which something tends to move.
  2. A general tendency or inclination.
  3. Current style; vogue: the latest trend in fashion.

There is something going about the music scene that I hadn’t noticed until recently. A break in the common routine. The abandonment of traditional role patterns if you will.

Some names: Mates of State (est. 1997), Beach House (since 2004) and Blood Red Shoes (d.o.b. 2005).

The thing they have in common? Women up front; men at the back. That’s what.

As much as this shouldn’t be surprising, somehow it is. At least it is to me (shows you how modern I am…). I’m one of those guys that didn’t even have female artists in their record collection until I was made aware of this fact (thank you again for that Ellen). Embarrassed, I decided to change my ways. I educated myself a bit more in this part of female accomplishments and found out that I had missed out on a lot of great music!

Still, the fact that three of my current musical favorites have an ‘untraditional’ set up was surprising enough for me to do this little write-up about the subject.

Mates of State are an indie pop/rock duo (drums and electric organ) from the US who have been releasing quality music since 1999. What sets MoS apart from a lot of acts is not only the prominent – and very effective – use of synths/organs but especially the impressive (and quite beautiful) man/woman vocal harmonies. The instrumentation is limited but very rich. The quality of the songwriting does the rest.

Beach House are Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally. And Beach House are also fantastic! The band’s third album ‘Teen Dream’ was released on Sub Pop last January and it quite possibly is one the finest releases in recent years. At the very least it’s one of the finest of 2010 (for what it’s worth) so far, and it would really surprise me if this does not end up way at the top of a lot of year-end-lists come December. ‘Dream pop’ seems to be the most used term to define their music. I’d just like to use the term ‘impressively beautiful’.

Beach House – Lover of Mine

Last up are Brighton, England’s very own Blood Red Shoes. A guy and a gal who make some of the finest guitar rock around. Some tags I found to be quite accurate as to describing the music: rambunctious, swaggering, energetic and stylish. Two albums into their career, they’ve just released another stunner called ‘Fire Like This’. Listen to the song posted below and be convinced.

And now just hope that this doesn’t actually prove to be a trend after all…

Cheerio for now,

Peanut

TSURURADIO Presents… And She Was Born In A Bottle Rocket, 1929 Mixtape!!!

Well it’s time for the weekend.  Finally, right?  Can I get a high-five?

Sweet.

What you doing this weekend?  Looks like more snow here, so my riding will be relegated to The Tank.  BUT, if that good lard’s a-willin’ and the creeks don’t rise, Tuck and I will be driving out the route for April 3rd Super Awesome NO-FRILLS Bike Ride for Breast Cancer!

Keep an eye out for an update for a start location and route if all goes well!

WOOT!

I’m so excited for the ride.  No idea how many will show up.  But even it’s just a handful of people, it’ll be great and, of course, SUPER AWESOME!  Haha!

Okay…  got a little Friday mixtape for you today.  Kept it old school, just built a nice collection of songs in the order I’d like to hear them.  No “mixing”, no necessity for gapless play (though, I recommend it anyway because, well, those 2 sec gap things are just stupid).

This one was inspired by so many things.  Matt obsessing over Rural Alberta Advantage, gud giving us a Tom Waits New Orleans song down in the Society, catching Velvet Underground in a movie the other night, or like when Colin Meloy was having his mind blown by Besnard Lakes. Just little things like that, “Ghost”, of course, appears due to the photo at the top of this post, plus our discussion of The Greatest Song Trilogy Of All Time, & my desire to have the lyric tattooed on my arm ASAP.

So yeah, it’s the little things that seemed to hook onto me, latching to my brain.  Feels good, feels right.  And after all this #musicblogocide2k10 madness going, I wanted to end this week on a good note.  So, I’ll shut up and let’s just get to it.

Have a wonderful weekend, bundle up, and keep riding!  Oh, and by the way, got a “special valentine’s day” treat for you this weekend, well, maybe more of an anti-valentine’s day treat, by way of our good friend Neil.  Keep an eye out, should be ready by Sunday!!!  Okay, let’s do this as…
