I thought I would make use of my space on this experimental collective of paper cranes to highlight some of the music new and old that for some reason or other doesn’t get the flood of hype that makes up much of the blogosphere’s musical coverage. We on The Blue Walrus as a new music blog are as guilty as others of getting sucked into the hyperbole every now and again as we try to surf the wave of the next big thing – but here on #PCC I feel I have a space I can devote to some of my favourite bands ignoring whether they are new, cool, or anything else. I just love them.
With a title like Under The Sea I thought where better to start than the nautically themed British Sea Power (Myspace/Twitter) – a band I’ve been in love with since a very bizarre performance at a festival pushing a decade ago in my formative years. The band had set up a British military theme, wondering around with WW2 helmets and Wood banging drums through the crowd and handing out bars of Kendal Mint Cake. It was a bizarre eye opening experience at the tender age of 15 to the experience of art, but they never fall short on the actual music either with a sound easiest to liken to a mixture of Pixies and Arcade Fire
The fact their latest single is called Who’s In Control seemed rather apt for the collective here as well – especially with Aaron focusing a little more on his naughty nudiezine and Ari popping away on a short holiday leaving us kids a little bit of a free reign…
This was only supposed to be a short introduction post, but expect more of this in a more regular timeslot in the coming weeks.
