Trippin’ out & listening to Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter!!!

Hey, are any of you using Ping? Because, I’m not. Hell, I’m still refusing to upgrade to iTunes 10. lol. I can’t stand iTunes, I only have it for my iPod classic but I cringe when I click it. I don’t buy from the iTunes store.. ever. I do records, Amazon, labels, but never iTunes. Sorry. Why oh why would I need/want another “social network”? I’m barely enjoying Facebook (I’m more of a twitter guy, but thanks to today’s hacker attack, it’s now blocked at work, thanks asshole).

But, hey, no twitter hacker can stop me from listening to some new music, amirite? Ohiamrite! And today’s pretty epically awesomely awesome gem? Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter!

Okay, I need to get something out of the way as it’s “featured” on the lead-off track, “Earthquake”. Plugged-in acoustic guitars. No… not playing into a plugged-in mic, I’m talking about the kind where you have pick-ups buried in the guitar, where you get that weird chiming boingy version of the acoustic guitar, nothing AT ALL what it sounds like in real life, that sounds more like a christian jesus-lover ballad.

Is there any sound worse in music than that sound?

The answer, of course, is no. I rather listen to screamo all day long than listen to that sound for more than a few minutes/seconds/blinks. Oh man, nothing worse than showing up to a concert, say, an acoustic-band, like the femmes, and suddenly you hear that playing the opening riff of “Blister In The Sun”.

*vomit…. juuuuust a little bit*

*vomit a lot*

Don’t worry though, “Don’t Cry” gets things all fixed up with some super-distorted acousticness ala Neutral Milk Hotel, and all is right with the world again…. Actually, better than “right”, it’s fucking awesome!

Not really sure how to describe, it’s a psych/folk/pop/electro-ish kinda thing going on. Mandolins & harmonies, stomping & click-clock-boom-bop, before dropping to a quiet, tender, and near Velvet Underground-esque “Sailing”.

Druggy. That’s the word. The whole damn album! Hell, “Memory Boy”, a rather standard pop song, sounds like it was blended with ice, a few drops of acid, and maybe a sprig of the marij-ja-wanna! It’s trippy wonderful gooooood times (except “Earthquake”, ew)…. yeah….Wooooooo!!!
