Change is good!? Buzzard by Margot & The Nuclear So & So’s!!!

Oh where oh where could my Margots have gone?
Oh where oh where could they be?

I don’t know, but I’d sure like to know. Band member change-ups, new sounds, new attitude, yet you still call yourself Margot & The Nuclear So & So’s? Change is good, change is bad, I just need change I can believe in! Hope & change! Brother, can you spare me a quarter?

Look… no one is as big a fan as genre-shifters as I am, my love & respect for bands who for-go success or “giving them what they want” in order to follow their hearts and souls knows no bounds. I get it. So, when word came down the pipe that things changed over at Margot’s nuclear headquarters, I pulled back, opened my mind, and waited to see just what would course its way down my ear canals..

Well, it’s different. Not like “hey, are they doing rap?” different, no, it’s just a bit harder, a bit (Ooo… I hate this word) “edgier”, no, I can’t live with that word, let’s say “more aggressive”. Yeah, that’s better. There’s noise. Don’t remember that before. Everything starts off so coy with “Birds” until them electric guitars peel in and BRAM-BRAM-B-B-BRAM-BRAM into your head as they repeat the lyrics over and over. Yeah, they still got that slight Michael Penn kinda thing on a few songs, like “Lunatic Lunatic Lunatic”, even after the drum spilling, hey lets get a full band on this part, of the song. But for the most part, things are agitated.

This isn’t a tender, have on in the background album, this one requires a little volume and attention, if not, you may be tempted to turn it down or off completely. I think it warrants some of your time. It may not be Margot to your liking, but then again, if we were all the same, all the time, that might not be very interesting either.

I’m in. But judge for yourself!

1 Birds
2 Let’s Paint Our Teeth Green
3 New York City Hotel Blues

I think the words you’re trying to find are “it kind of sucks and I’m let down because the last CD was so good, especially the first couple songs”. You’re welcome!

@Scooter… lol! I loved Animal & Not Animal. But, with an open mind and a few extra goes, I got into this! Proper headphones made all the difference though…

Don’t let this review fool you.

There is no bigger Margot fan than i
(okay maybe a couple), and while
i sincerely will miss the presence
of Emily and the melodies / harmonies
that she provided when you get down
to the core of this album the band
    is the same.

peel back the layers, even though there
are less of them, and really immerse
yourself in this album you can’t help but
    to find the same qualities
of why you first fell in love with
    them on “dust of retreat”.

i was initially a bit put off by the
    “more aggressive” approach and
it took me a couple of listens
    to fully understand what Richard
was doing but when i got it,
I GOT IT and now it won’t leave
my cd player when i’m home,
nor my ipod when i’m away.
