Happy Friday to you, once again, my dear friends! Got a special little treat for ya today.
The other day, I was bored with ye ol’ iPod and was looking around for something different. Suddenly remembered that in my drawer behind me at my desk there’s a stack of old case-less CDs I’ve used as dust collectors over the years. Thumbing through, found some fun little albums that I used to — and in some cases still do — listen to, but one (well actually three) CDs that really popped into my tender heart was a trilogy of mixtapes I made for Baby & I WAAAY back in aught-6 when we were just dating, during that ever crucial stage between fuck-buddies & engaged! When we were still a-courtin’! Yeah… PRE-TSURURADIO!

They were simply called “Recently” volumes 1, 2, & 3. Mixtapes that were part “me” & part “her”, i.e. songs in her wheelhouse, songs that may make her think of me, songs that make me think of her, and songs that show what I like… ALL rolled into one! Yeah. I’ve been taking mixtapes seriously for a long long time. You should’ve seen the ones from my teenage years. Oh my.
I wondered how they held up over the nearly half-decade. I mean, yeah, I remembered Baby & I listening to them, especially Volume I (always her fave) a bunch of times that year, but as time goes on and you listen to more and more music, your ears change, right? How would it sound now?
I put her in the car radio, pushed the play buttons, and off it went. It played like a memory, a time long ago, that also seemed like it was yesterday. Goosebumps and happy memories, lots of smiles and laughter as we tried to remember the words — particularly for me, the forgotten fave “Clumsy” by Pompougnac & Stipe.
A few songs in and I knew I had to share this with you. A CD rip and a bit of searching lyrics via the googles for who was singing what (I seriously had NO IDEA who or what some of these songs were when I was re-tagging them), we got us a nice old mixtape fer ya!
