Waxing The Aughts (Poetically)… HitMeWithMuzak remembers Icky Thump by The White Stripes

Hello there! Looky looky what we gots, another “Waxing The Aughts (Poetically)“… WOOT!

…where we eschew impossible decade compiling lists and have the wonderful members of our community think back to some of their favourite albums from this past decade and say as many (or few) words about it as they like.
The aughts may be over, but that don’t mean the appreciation can’t continue, right? Right. This time, HitMeWithMuzack remembers Icky Thump by The White Stripes..

Take it away, HitMe!!

White Stripes – Icky Thump (2007)

I don’t really know how to write reviews of albums, the words that I know cannot possibly encapsulate the music contained within this LP, the finest of their discography in my opinion. This is the album that made me realize that “Wow, the White Stripes might be one of the defining bands of this decade.” White covers so many different genres in this album, from alt-rock and typical White Stripes fare, to mariachi and the blues. I don’t want to ramble, because nothing I can write will describe this album adequately, apart from please, if you haven’t already, give this album a listen!

1 – “Icky Thump”
2 – “You Don’t Know What Love Is (You Just Do as You’re Told)”
3 – “300 M.P.H. Torrential Outpour Blues”
4 – “Conquest” (Corky Robbins)
5 – “Bone Broke”
6 – “Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn”
7 – “St. Andrew (This Battle Is in the Air)”
8 – “Little Cream Soda”
9 – “Rag and Bone”
10 – “I’m Slowly Turning into You”
11 – “A Martyr for My Love for You”
12 – “Catch Hell Blues”
13 – “Effect and Cause”

From the pounding bass drum throughout, to the high pitch guitar screeches towards the end, I fell in love with this song the day the single was released!

(Hope I’m not too late Tsuru, sorry, my procrastination got the better of me!)
