Waxing The Aughts (Poetically)… wasoe remembers Twin Cinema by New Pornographers

We continue our little end of the decade series called clichely & probably often incorrectly “Waxing The Aughts (Poetically)“…

…where we eschew impossible decade compiling lists and have the wonderful members of our community think back to some of their favourite albums from this past decade and say as many (or few) words about it as they like. This time, wasoe remembers (one of my favourites as well) Twin Cinema by New Pornographers… Take it away wasoe!

New Pornographers – Twin Cinema (2005)

In the 2000s, was there a better, more flawlessly constructed pop album than Twin Cinema? Did any other album of indie pop rock have songs as endlessly catchy and danceable as “Sing Me Spanish Techno”? Or songs as epic, charging, and ready for head-banging as “Use It”? Or slow jams as sublime as “These Are The Fables”? Or Dan Bejar tunes as flawless as “Jackie, Dressed In Cobras,” or Na Na Nas like those on “Broken Breads”? Were there any other tunes that deserved to be blared from every radio station, or from the speakers at every high school dance, or from the car while driving down the road, or from my headphones in my room while thrashing about like crazy and lip-syncing perfectly to every word? Was there any other album that could make me drop everything I was doing and want to do nothing but dance like a fool and throw my fist in the air and do air-drums and air-guitar? Was there any other album that brought me as much pure, unadulterated joy?
