Phrazes for the Young by Julian Casablancas: How could you be… WhoooaOoooohOooooh!!!!

Did you know it’s Friday? Just dawned on me a bit ago…. I hate that I forgot, but I love that feeling when I remembered! Haha! TGIF and all that, right? It’s a shame, really. How often do we spend 5/7ths of our lives waiting for the other 2/7ths to occur?

Too often, that’s how much.

Think about it. Let’s say we live to a nice even 100 years of age.

5/7ths is 71.42 years, 2/7ths is the other 28.58 years. Damn. I know, I know, we don’t work all 100 years, fine, but scratch out the first 5 to 8 years when you don’t remember they even existed. How many of us went to school so excited to NOT be in school? Fine, you got your summer vaca, yay, but then scratch out the last 10 years where you don’t remember shit while sitting alone in the nursing home. Plus, when you are teen, you are probably school during weekdays, working on weekends — unless you are rich or something, they don’t count.

Pull out your adding machines and crunch a few numbers…

And suddenly you’ll find you reeeeally need to start enjoying them 5/7ths a little more, eh? You know what helps? Guilty pleasures….. those sinful delights that, oh, just one won’t hurt will it? Nom nom nom. One of my guiltiest of pleasures is to take a heaping (and I mean heaping) TABLEspoon of natural peanut butter — I’ve grown accustomed to the taste, can’t go back to Jif/Spif/Spanky/Whatever again — and plop a Dove dark chocolate thingy on it. Then, just shove the whole thing in my mouth.

Oh baby.

Oh baby, baby.

And as of yesterday… I got a new one guilty pleasure, Phrazes for the Young by Julian Casablancas.

Ex-Stroker — if you weren’t made awares — kicks off a solo career with a short little muddled, synth-cheese riddled, messy-mixed, less than steller lyrics album of hooky-hooks, and I love it!

He hits all the goose-bump chords as rhythm drives you forward and forward, I mean, just check out “Out Of The Blue”, you pick up the words after 2 listens, but you got a goose-bump riddled chorus full of WhooaOoohOoooh’s giving you a chance to hop in right away and bop around like a mentally-challenged monkey. WHICH I DID!

Needless to say, the folks at work looked at me with great concern, until they remember it was me, and they went about their business. This is Molly Ringwald music, no, John Hughes music!

Full of bad stereotypes and the bad boy making out with the rich girl. Yet you watch/listen again and again…… And love it.

Apparently there’s a few bonus tracks out there. Get ’em if you want, but don’t add them to this album. This thing must clock in around 30 minutes, maybe, and that’s all you need. Any more is WAY too serious. Can you imagine if Breakfast Club was a 3 hour epic? Ugh.

So, it’s Friday, the 5th of our seven…. Turn it on, turn it up, and enjoy Day 5 just as much as you plan on enjoying numbers six and seven, okay?
