Sigh No More by Mumford & Sons…

Photography by Alice Magdalene C.

An epic weekend deserves some epic music, don’t you think? CNote Art Show was wonderful, we went up Friday for the preview, after exploring around, found my two pieces. Took a little mobile twitpic action…

Ah, fame… lol. Who’s gonna live forever?

Neither sold, but that’s okay, if I was doing photography to be rich & famous, well… I probably wouldn’t be doing photography, now would I? We did buy a piece while we were there, an amazing wood-burned & stained work by Tim Lachcik of two birds on a picket fence! Here’s a shitty twitpic of it…

The photo doesn’t do it ANY justice, it’s a good size, about 4 feet wide by about 2.5 feet tall. It’s now hanging above our bed. Really nice. You can see a better photo, as well as his other works, at his portfolio. Phenomenal work!

Saturday… Oh Saturday… Baby & I had all the intentions in the world of going down to Cincinnati, but a fun night out on Friday, some sleeping in, and some rainy day errands resulted in baby and I spending the rest of Saturday snuggling on the couch watching Barton Fink, drinking wine, and eating M-n-M’s… Yeah, pretty fucking amazing.

Sunday was cycling, wet, rainy, chilly, muddy, debris-ridden cyling. Did a sweet 40 miles and twitpic’d this photo in the process!

Only saw about 5 cyclists the whole ride! Tons of runners, but c’mon ya’ll! I know it’s chilly and rainy, but trust me, as miserable as it feels climbing a hill when you are wet & tired, the more awesome it feels to get home and get in that shower, knowing you did something that most people wouldn’t do!

Anyways, cleaned up, headed down to the studio and did two shoots. One of the beautiful Attilla

And one of the incredible Lucy (sorry, haven’t worked on those photos yet). I PROMISE to get a Tsuru & The Bride post up soon from the shoot. Let me get a few more photos worked on first!

So you can see…. pretty damn epic.

It’s only fitting then that today’s little obsession takes something as simple as a blend of folk & bluegrass and turn it into something that’s as over-the-top & mind-blowing as an Arcade Fire song! Yeah, I’m talking about Sigh No More by Mumford & Sons.

I have no idea who the hell these guys are, but when we were doing our little shuffle experiment on Thursday/Friday, their songs kept popping up and I kept loving them. It got me pretty anxious to give this a proper spin today. I had no idea what I was in for something so damn awesome. In one sense, the album is a little understated, quiet, folky, intimate, but then often it drops down, kicks it up, and beats the shit out of you with a build-up & swelling of everything & anything they seem to have at their disposal.

Here’s, take a look at one of their videos… should give you a pretty good idea what I’m talking about.

Starts off acoustic, then BOOM, BOOM, wait… wait, quiet again. You know something’s coming. Even when there isn’t, each song feels like at any moment it could explode into a smorgasbord of epic-super-awesome-gyot-dayum-ness!

Okay, just re-read the post, not sure if it’s the lack of coffee or the denouement of an incredible weekend, but I seem to be running out of words with every sentence I write. A very weird feeling, but a good excuse to shut the hell up and let Mumford & Sons do the speaking for themselves.

Check out the first two songs, the video up above, and then go buy the rest. I’m going to go get some more coffee…

really amazing stuff he has. One (not in the CNote, but at his studio he had there) was as tall as the wall, just stunning….
