Howdy ya’ll! Happy Monday to you! Did you have a good weekend? Me too! I hope alot of you were out photographin’ your dirty selves, we’ve got lots of great entries in our “Dirty” Photo contest, but there’s still another day left! So get yer photos in while the gettins good!!!
ODDS & ENDS
There’s SO MUCH going on in TsuruLand, I think I need to give a quick rundown of everything before we get to the music… it all starts off with this past weekend and man, what a good weekend it was!!! First Friday, YUMMY! was fantastic! It was great to see all our peeps, hang out with great friends, have some cupcakes and wine (and more drinks later on, WOOT!), and enjoy some wonderful art & festivities. Thanks so much Amy & Junctionview for putting on such a great show.
Then Saturday morning, Tuck & I Pedaled 65 Miles With Pete for cerebral palsy, it was warm, but clear and sunny and we kicked some serious butt! 65 miles in about 3 hours, not too shabby, eh? Tuck provided the soundtrack by ad-libbing motivational music and a little “german techno” beatbox, that is until I gave a heart-wrenching rendition of “Livin’ On A Prayer” at mile 50-something (substituting the words for cycling-themed lyrics, of course)…. Great ride, though we still can’t figure out why no one ever wants to ride with us….. Strange.
Finally, Sunday was for photoshootin’ and it was amazing. I rented a room at what has GOT to be one of the most rundown shit-holes I’ve ever been in, Motel One on Main St. in Columbus…
“Motel One” by me!
Yep, it was perfect for my on going project exploring beauty in decidely UN-beautiful places! Expect updates on TSURUFOTO & Tsuru And The Bride soon!
And speaking of my bride, let me just take one more second to show you her latest creation. I gotta say, I don’t do this because I’m trying to make us the moneys, I’m just so damn proud and continuously blown away by her talent and creativity! Check this out, The Crane Wife Artisan Leather Clutch…
The amount of time and effort to get that just right and man, did it ever come out just right. Baby, I told you 100 times, but I have to say it again, just amazing. Oh and guess what! She got into Renegade (banner coming soon) so all you folks up, in, & around Chicago will have a chance to meet the unimitatable TsuruBride herself (I’ll be her sexy assistant & bag boy). The show is September 12 & 13th, so make sure you come out and say “Alloooo!”.
Now, that’s not everything for our Odds & Ends, as Baby & I have lots more in the works as we are heading into our peak Tsuru Nation Domination season, but we’ll hold on to some of that for another day when more details emerge — Ooo…. a teaser, I know, aren’t I a stinker??
It’s time to get on with today’s new music and it’s something pretty damn special, Welcome Joy by The Cave Singers!
Pardon the cliché, but listening to Welcome Joy is like stepping back into a different time. The album sounds like it was birthed in some leftover hippie commune back in the 70s. Comparisons are being made to Fleetwood Mac, and I can get behind that, it’s got an easy groove to some songs or a kind of classic rock folkiness to some of the others, does that make sense? Probably not.
It’s easy to think how that description would lead to a contrived-faux-sound, and sure some bands mimicking some woolly trend might make that mistake, but The Cave Singers sound authentic and true, like there real reverence for the music of their influence. The results are warm and beautiful, and even though the forecast is for 90 degrees and “steamy”, you don’t mind wrapping this one around your shoulders and letting the day roll by…. Nice.
Man am I ready for Autumn or what?
Well come on baby,
let’s make it right…
