I know my darling, I can’t stand to sleep alone…

What a long week…. seemed to go on forever! But finally (finally), it’s coming to a close and I can finally truly think about the weekend that is to be. I believe Valentine’s Day is this weekend, meh, whatevers. Believe it or not, though we are super romantic mushy pants and what not, baby and I don’t really do much for this “holiday”, not for any philosophical reasons or anything, it just seems rather forced and generated, don’t you think? I don’t need hallmark telling me to appreciate my woman, goddammit!

Holidays aside, and more importantly, it IS the weekend, that’s reason enough to rejoice in my book! And as much as I’m excited to get my “weekend on”, I’d be holding back on you if I didn’t express my utter joy and excitement about some impending leaks and releases. A couple of weeks ago, I was quite gleeful when my ears were drenched with the utter insanity that is “The Rake’s Song”, right? Well, apparently, a radio rip of another track has started trickling about, this time it’s “The Wanting Comes In Waves”, and it’s intense… with each new nugget, I’m getting more and more excited for this rock opera!

Beyond that, we’ve already shared a little Neko that should be rearing it’s sexy head soon, but she’s not the only hawtness bringing the goodness, oh no! We’ve got Camera Obscura’s & Metric’s latest efforts that should be showing up soon! The first tracks have popped out, “My Maudlin Career” and “Help I’m Alive”, respectively and have both wet my tongue and enticed my mind!

Finally, the boys from Doves & our dear Canadians, the Great Lake Swimmers let out a track each off their next releases. “Pulling On A Line” in particular, has gotten stuck on mad repeat way too many times considering I don’t have an album to go with it (maybe a mixtape is in order?). Hmm….

I know I don’t usually do songs from impending leaks unless it’s a special occasion (I tend to let albums come to me versus digging out single track leaks) but with these five artists, anything from them is a special occasion, don’t you think? Check ’em out and get excited with me (can I get an amen?)…

Oh, but my friends, that’s not it for today! Oh no no no! I got one more thing I wanted to talk about. The quirky retro-electro (is that a new genre I just made up?) Bats For Lashes and Two Suns.

Retro-electro…. I like that. Listening I feel like I’m stepping back to high school for some reason (remember, I’m older than you, I graduated high school in ’91), it’s got this, oh I don’t know if I can accurately describe it, late 80’s / early 90’s thing about it that’s just beyond my ability to describe. Hmmm…. Well, if it WAS say, 1990, this is the kind of artist I could see Peter Gabriel wanting to work with (huh?), yeah… it’s kinda has a Kate Bush / Bjork-y thing going on, but not really. Oh man, this is going to drive me nuts.

Forget it, just know this. It’s beautiful and loaded with atmosphere, like a soundtrack – oop! That’s it! It’s like a goddamn soundtrack from a late 80’s dark and somewhat “indie” movie! I mean, listen to “Daniel” and tell me you don’t imagine some big haired mentally-tortured girl walking in a big city, pre-internet, pre-mobile phone upset about, well, I guess her & her man, Daniel! Fucked up, eh?

But then again, maybe you were born in 1989 and you have no idea what the fuck I’m talking about. Either way, just load it up and enjoy, okay? I’m starting to feel old…

Bat For Lashes – 02 Sleep Alone

I know my darling I can’t stand to sleep alone
No sweet heart in the dark to call my own
You’re my own you’re my own
I can sing it I can groan
Then darkness is a stranger
then all a lonely lonely lone…

Have a good Friday, everyone, and a happy weekend (we will!). Hope to have a special little sumfin up this weekend for you, if the good lard’s a-willin’ (and the creeks don’t rise), but until then, go show Ms. Khan all your love here and here now…
