TSURURADIO Vinyl Preservation Society Presents… Mixtape By Numbers!!! Volume One

Good friend and fan of Tsururadio (I’m assuming) James Thurber once said, “There is no safety in numbers, or in anything else.” That may well be true, Mr. Thurber, you scoundrel, but I’ve found over the years numbers can elicit much emotion, from the highest joys to the greatest frustrations to the darkest misery. Twenty million, a very happy number when it’s the amount you won in the lottery, not so much when it’s the amount your company lost last year. It’s not even the size of the number, one can be your true love, the loneliest number, or who you always need to look out for….

High school philosophy aside, I love numbers, always have, ever since hearing that wonderful Sesame Street song blare on my television, as the cartoon pinball flew along the tunnels and lights, and the unknown singer belted out the only lyric over and over again, “1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, eleven, twelve!”. Oh how I loved Sesame Street…. My mom said that she used to have to call me into the other room before the credits came on, knowing she’d have to consul (is that the right word?) my tears if I knew it was over. Yeah, I was an odd little boy.

Anywhos…. down in the Society, we started up a new Mixtape Project, something we stole right off of The Postmarks latest effort By The Numbers… Members put up a song that has a number in the title, but we do it in order, then when we have enough for a mixtape, we post it and bask in the brilliance that is the community mixtape. Well, we crossed twenty yesterday, and with it we had Volume One! Yay! Such a nice round number, all you OCD folks out there should be pretty happy with that….

Now, technically, this mixtape could never end, though I’m pretty sure there aren’t many songs out there with those “less popular” numbers. Oh sure, anyone can find a song with 20 or 21, or 100, or 13, but what about those often forgotten numbers, like 67 or 1,266, relegated to only the most mundane duties, like accounting or worse, spending their existence spelling “BOOBS” on calculators. Where’s their love & appreciation? I guess we’ll have to see how high we get… Right now we are waiting for someone to post a brilliant “24” song.

So, until we get to Volume Two…
