Happy New Year! Wow, what a year it’s been….
What? You’re confused? Don’t be, let me explain. It was one year ago today my beautiful baby and I got hitched, tied the knot, you know… got married. Before we ran off to the alter (not really an alter, but a winery) and headed out to Italy to celebrate our lovin’ lovingness, we put up a mixtape, the one we gave as gifts at our wedding, to you (which, by the way, is still up for your enjoyment (well, the zip, not the individual mp3s)).
Well, great, so it’s our anniversary, why the “new year” talk? Well, you see, November is a pretty significant month for us, we started dating in November, we got engaged in November, we both have got promoted at work in November, and (obviously) got married in November. So, November has become a kind of “Chinese New Year” but replace the Chinese part with Tsuru & The Bride. It’s a time for us to look ahead to our next year, get excited about the holidays coming up, but more importantly to reflect on the year that was…
And what a year it was, eh? From struggles & triumphs at work, Tsurubride’s designs taking off like hotcakes (seriously, thank you so so much to everyone who came to Tiny Canary this weekend and supported us, we’ll give our our report and respects soon), to me re-discovering cycling (and riding about 2,500 miles or so (so far) this summer & fall), to the birth of our fantastic Society (our Music Brigade, if you will) where the most amazing board members reside. We’ve had some amazing albums come out this year, and shared some wonderful vinyl & mixtapes, and not to be forgotten, we’ve seen our new baby, our Podcasts (aka, tsurucasts, as I’m more of a narcissist than I would’ve ever realized) show up in the family portraits on the left.
PHEW! And that’s just one year?
But most important is my baby. She has made this year, and really every year we’ve been together, the most amazing time of my life. She’s encouraged me, been there for me, and helped keep me head strong, clear, and fixed firmly on my shoulders. Not just with tsururadio and work, but also with my art & photography, my odd little obsessions, and my all the little whims that pop in this eccentric brain o’ mine. Thank you baby, I love you like crazy! Can I tell you a secret about us? I’m the luckiest, yep, it’s true. But don’t feel bad for Tsurubride, she’s the cutest. She’s also the craziest, because she loves a weirdo like me.
Well… okay, before you vomit, enough mushy-pants.
This year, we decided to make what we started last year a new tradition, afterall, repetition is what makes traditions traditions, right? And traditions are made, but only if they are continued and enjoyed, and I think this one will be. The tradition? A Tsuru & The Bride mixtape, a joint venture, into our musical, emotional, and/or physical life that was this year that we’ll publish on (or around, if we are traveling) November 17th. This time we have a theme… duets!
Awww… how fitting, eh?
You know, there are a lot of duets out there, but there really aren’t that many out there for us, which is surprising. After a few months of list writing and few “oh hey, this would be perfect!” as we listened to some new album, as well as a little online searching, what follows is 20 duet gems that seemed to wrap up this year quite nicely. Sometimes, it was just a simple line in the song, sometimes it was the entire theme, but in the end, all that mattered is that when, in the years to come, we put on One Year Later: The Duets, we’ll think back on this year and, I get the feeling, think how it was just the start of some amazing things still to come.
So thank you baby, and thank you to everyone out there in the invisible interweb world, for making this another fantastic year. HAPPY NEW YEAR! So much more to come, so many good times to share! Let’s hop to it and start it off right as…
