TSURURADIO Vinyl Preservation Society Presents… Un Peu De Musique Francophone Mixtape!!!

Photography by Youlia Volkova

As I made it quite clear when presenting our Mesmerized’s & Lotte’s Scandinavian mixtapes (Scandinavia, Europe’s Canada), geography and I are not friends. This was only emphasized when Fulltext linked us to this little “game”, where I proceeded to get one right. I rock.

Fortunately, there’s one country I got down pat, France. So, when good friend, member, and fellow web logger Isa presented her Francophone mixtape to the society, I knew exactly where every song was coming from…. Without even using wikipedia, I know it’s that big ass country right there in Europe, where they hold Le Tour De France, and Napolean did some stuff, where people go on strike a lot (I mean, ALOT) and where mimes walk around with impunity and without fear of being beatin’!

Sadly, it is also a country that the U.S. has stereotyped into one “look”. Don’t believe me? Put on a beret, a horizontal black & white striped shirt, some skinny black pants, draw on a moustache, and walk around with a baguette in one hand and a bottle of wine in the other and see what’s the first thing people say, hell, think! Baby & I proved this at a friend’s Halloween / Housewarming party last Friday, where we attempted to expose this wretched country’s blatant xenophobia by showing up dressed like this…

Sure enough, everyone ASSUMED we were dressed as a French couple…. Such hatred and prejudice! If they would have just taken off their glasses of injustice, they would have seen we were actually just dressed as Ironic International Hipsters!!! So, we lit up some cigarettes, spit on the ground, called them a bunch of stupid Americans, and left (well, after we had some food & drinks).

Psh! Stupid Americans….

So, in an effort to help bring enlightenment, love, understanding, & togetherness into the world, I felt it only my duty (and privilege) to present Isa’s wonderful mixtape to you. Ten fantastic songs from beautiful pop to fun rock, and, of course, featuring inherently sexy French linguistics… Then, as an added bonus track, I ripped a song from my souvenir from Montreal, a four song 7 inch 45rpm imported from France from god knows when of Colette Renard singing “Bilissi” and included it in the zip. Good times…

Okay, enough talk… Ready to get your French on? Ready to see that the “France” Disney subjected you to during your fragile years is nothing but a pathetic evil myth? Good…. here we go, thank you so much Isa, your first mixtape, and it’s perfect! I hope the rest of you enjoy as…

thanks for posting these great songs.

but–i’m afraid the song titles do not match the actual songs. (the cali song is really the song you titled “a ton etoile” and others as well. you might want to fix them.

once again, keep up the great work on your blog.

This is such a great mix. We should get more French music in the forum.
