Songs of the birds, like hands…

Is there ever a more apt name for a band than Calexico? What they are, it’s right there in the name! It’s direct enough to give you a pretty good idea of what they will sound like, but wide enough to not pigeon-hole them to something. This is one of those bands from my 20s that I hopped on originally, and in all honesty, because of their album art. It reminded me of Cake, and while hanging out at the bookstore that sold music, I just tossed it in the shopping cart (ever do that? buy an album by it’s cover? it’s amazing how many great albums and bands (and horrible ones) I’ve come across over the years that way)…

Well, I was rather smitten right off the bat. Not in the OMG! kinda way, more in that Oh yeah…. kinda way, because that’s really what they are. They won’t come beating you upside the head, they glide right in, perfect for a road trip, or a chill afternoon. The kind where, when you see they worked and toured with Iron & Wine, you think to yourself, “well, of course they did”.

Anyways, sorry friends, I got to make this one quick, this friday is becoming much busier than I anticipated. So, trust me on this, just grab, load, leeeeeean back, and enjoy….

Calexico – 01 Victor Jara’s Hands
Calexico – 02 Two Silver Trees
Calexico – 03 The News About William
Calexico – 04 Sarabande In Pencil Form
Calexico – 05 Writer’s Minor Holiday

Go show them all your love here, here, and here now!

Talking of Calexico artwork it’s nice to see Victor Gastelum back on board for the new album. :)
