It seems the “really, I haven’t posted on that album yet? what are you… stupid?” series is continuing today as I browse through my player and realize that I completely neglected to show some sweet lovins to The Watson Twins and their chill pop/country Fire Songs. Yeah, I know! Stupid, eh? Well, time to make up for some lost time…
Baby and I enjoyed this one a few times a weekend or two back during one of our arts & crafts times.. it’s got that Sunday afternoon laid back kinda vibe to it. A nice high 70’s late afternoon, sittin’ on the porch, sippin’ on your libations of choice, though sun-brewed iced tea might be the most apropo (fancy word, eh? actually, it’s just the name of cafe down the street from us, so no… I’m not that fancy yet). Siiiiip… Ahhhhh! Maybe we should make that a long island iced tea (woop!).
Anyways, where was I? Oh yeah. Take, as a good example, their cover of The Cure’s “Just Like Heaven”, suddenly, the love anthem of budding 80’s goth teens is slowed down to the viscosity of fresh honey, straight off the honey comb, slowly chewed to get every last burst to that sweet fructose in your mouth.
You don’t have any idea what I’m talking about do you? Meh, that’s okay… tell you what… just go, grab the songs, take off your shoes, go sit on your porch, listen, watch the world slow down, watch the mail man drift by in slo-mo, watch the dog across the street wake up, slowly look around, put his head back down, and go back to sleep, then smile and enjoy…
Soft and only
Lost and lonely
Strange as angels
Dancing in the deepest oceans
Twisting in the water
You’re just like a dream
