It’s funny… I used to think of On Avery Island as the older, yet not quite as amazing, as brilliant, as wonderful, as beautiful sister to In The Aeroplane Over The Sea.standing in the corner. And granted, it’s not quite one giant masterpiece, placed together perfectly song to song, but the differences between the two, the levels of beauty, are not as far apart anymore after finally devouring this album on vinyl.
Besides the warmth and beauty of vinyl, with the side break, Avery plays differently. There are two distinct sides and moods, and stopping to flip the album, wipe it down, drop the needle, and wait for “Avery Island / April 1st” creates that break, changes the way it comes together, gives you mind a moment to leave… I don’t know, you got to check it out yourself, that’s all I can say as…
