Are you ready for what’s got to be our biggest post ever??? This has been one amazing year so far for music. From Islands to Wolf Parade, REM to Destroyer, Cloud Cult to Magnetic Fields, this year has just been oozing with so many good times, the idea of compiling a best songs of ’08 now that we are approaching the half way point was a bit daunting & overwhelming to even think about (I have no idea what I’m going to do at the end of the year!), so…. for today’s mega-awesome-super-post-multi-volume-mixtape, at my lovely wife’s recommendation, I recruited the amazing members of the Vinyl Preservation Society to offer up their favorite tracks of this first half of 2008. Well, a week and over 50 tracks submitted later, I was ready to make a humble little mixtape.

So, I loaded everything up to start sorting through… but as I listened, something happened, I just couldn’t delete anyone’s tracks! I wanted to keep them all, but to do so would be a mixtape big enough for 3 CDs! Well, I have one rule on mixtapes, whenever possible, do not repeat an artist. So, great, I deleted about 5 songs, and I deleted one that was from 2007, but then I added a few of my faves that were missed and still, 3 CDs worth of mixtape.

Fuck it. I would only do 2008 and the efforts of these artists to shame to delete anymore, and hell, you know we are probably missing some great songs to boot! So, up it all went and we are offering it up to you. Now, I put it togther the tracklist to give it some good flow, I hope you like it… if not, well hell, sorry, geez, kinda testy for someone who just downloaded a million songs. lol… Anyway, go get yer downloadin’ hats on, get your ipods or CD burners or whatever warmed up, and get ready for 3.4 hours of some of the best tunes this year has offered up as the…

what, no Atlas Sound (Quarantined)? no The Fall (Is This New)? No Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy (You Want That Picture) ? No Robert Pollard (To The Path!)? No Times New Viking (Drop-Out)? No Sun Kil Moon (Heron Blue)?
so far I think the most impacting release has been Third by Portishead no doubt.

thank you Tacim! And Pavement Obsessed…. Sorry, they weren’t nominated, and if I included all the great songs, the mixtape would’ve been 5 hours long, easy!

Where were you in the vinyl society? Why didn’t you come in and show the love for those artists???

Come on in, my friend, the water’s fine…..

^^^ it did?? oh man…. I have no idea, I heard they had some new stuff going on, so I assumed this one one of them (not a good enough fan to be sure).

Oh well, I really like how it goes from the Cut Copy song that doesn’t fade to the So & So’s, like they pulled the plug or something…..

But bummer. Someone at the society needs a good scolding!
