TSURURADIO Presents… Let’s Get Out Of This Country on Vinyl!!!

Photography by Karina Nurunnisa

Goodness, what a weekend for vinyl! Vinyl Society members know that last weekend I picked up a couple albums, including today’s featured album, but nothing can compare to the haul from this weekend. Oh, it all starts off so innocently, just a quick stop at my local haunt to exchange Abbey Road, (it was BRAND NEW and had a skip? Ouch.) They were out of copies, but no matter, I picked up another masterpiece that I hope to have ripped soon enough… So, we had also picked up baby’s new sewing machine (I’m sure she’ll be telling you about that soon enough), so we headed home. Check. Done. Right?

Well… I got a photo shoot coming up, and I was feeling a bit antsy so I decided to check out a few camera shops I haven’t been to around here. Of course, being Easter eve (is that a holiday) all these mom & pop shops were already shut down for the weekend, and started heading back home, ready to call our meandering done, that is… until we passed KafĂ© Kerouac on High St. and their serendipitous vinyl swap they were holding! Yeah, we cleaned up… check this (one was fifty cents!):

Johnny Cash At San Quentin
Otis Redding Live in Europe
Emerson Lake & Palmer – s/t
Jonathan Richman – Her Mystery Not Of High Heels And Eye Shadow
Aretha’s Gold
R.E.M. – Reckoning
Tom Waits – Small Change
Marth & The Vandellas! – Dancing In The Street!
Billie Holiday – The Original Recordings
AAAAND… an older & better copy of Abbey Road…

Not too shabby, eh? All look to be in great condition! Wheeee! I’m in heaven… vinyl heaven… And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak!

Okay, back to the business at hand, this week’s vinyl rip, Camera Obscura’s beautiful masterpiece (yeah, a fucking masterpiece) Let’s Get Out Of This Country. The album that took them out of the Belle & Sebastian shadow (why is that shadow so big and so dark?). This is perfectly pinned girl-pop, every song perfectly placed and played and now I’m starting to wonder how many more p-words I could’ve added to that description? Psh. Alright, I’m in a silly mood, apparently, so let’s get to it as…
