They’ll find a hear-shaped locket and an old photograph

I hope you enjoyed the vinyl onslaught of last week, I know I have…. good times. But it’s time to move on, there’s new music coming our way at an alarming rate, if it was all shit, there’d be no problem, but noooooo, stuck on ridiculous repeat since some point last week (along with that Fleet Foxes album, sweet fuck!) has been Cloud Cult’s latest Feel Good Ghosts (Tea-Partying Through Tornadoes). A friend of mine over at the Us Kids Know boards describe this as having the magic of Sunset Rubdown’s Random Spirit Lover, but more accessible. I tend to agree, though nothing quite has THE magic of SunRub’s last effort yet, this one has that “it plays like one giant piece” kinda feel, yet, genre-wise, it’s all over the place, from rock, to pop, to classical, to elements of hip-hop (seriously, if the lyrics were more toilet oriented, we have had a Ween masterpiece here), yet somehow it ties perfectly together. My only complaint is the time, it clocks in around 39 minutes, by the end of “Love You All” I was wishing it was eighty…

Cloud Cult – 01 No One Said It Would Be Easy
Cloud Cult – 02 Everybody Here Is A Cloud
Cloud Cult – 03 The Tornado Lessons
Cloud Cult – 04 When Water Comes To Life

And when the angels come
from cut you down the middle
to see if your still there
to see if your still there

and underneath your ribs
they’ll find a heart-shaped locket
and an old photograph
of you in daddy’s arms…

Go show Cloud Cult all your love here, here, and here now!
