Woot! Thanks god it’s fucking friday again. Week flew by, in a too fast kinda way, making it hard to keep up at work. Fortunately, I’ve got my friends over in the Vinyl Preservation Society (and my baby) keeping me sane. So yesterday I was listening to the vinyl rip of Neutral Milk Hotel’s In The Aeroplane Over the Sea again, and, as it always happens, I get to the holy trilogy of “Ghost” – “Untitled” – “Two-Headed Boy Pt. II” and I start thinking about how perfect those three songs are in succession to each other.
So we start talking about it in the record shop, while listening to a little old school Wilco (Summerteeth, to be exact) for the first time in years and it hits me again. What an incredible trinity of songs we’ve got kickin’ Wilco’s progression into pop, finally shaking off the remnants of Uncle Tupelo! They come out blazing with bells ringing on “Can’t Stand It”, immediately identifying the new sound. Next we slow it down to the dubious wife beater? lyrics of “She’s A Jar”. To finish, we find ourselves in the finale-esque “A Shot In The Arm”. It’s like a 13 minute, 3 song album!
Near perfection, my friends. Expect some vinyl rips this weekend! Until then… Enjoy!
She’s a jar
With a heavy lid
My pop quiz kid
A sleepy kisser
A pretty war
With feelings hid
She begs me not to miss her…
Go show Wilco all your lovehere, here, and here now.
