now our hearts l
Can’t replace the fear
or the thrill of the chase
These rituals showed up the door
for our wanderings
Opened and shut,
then slammed in our face
Where have they been…
Today’s post is a very special post, a first, but hopefully not last, in a new series…. Today is our very first TSURURADIO Vinyl Preservation Society vinyl rip by pervy-ninja and friend Josh, and it’s a doozy, Joy Division’s Closer on 180g vinyl!
Through a couple emails, when asked why he loved this album, and why did it need to be experienced on vinyl, he wrote…
“Hmmm… Why did I rip it? Why should it be heard on vinyl? Well, you said you hadn’t listened to any Joy Division and I was surprised to hear that from you, heheh. So that’s one reason. Also the album was originally released in 1980 (when vinyl was theformat). It was just recently remastered and re-pressed on 180g vinyl, complete with original album art. Sooo…yeah, you gotta hear it on vinyl :D. One thing worth making note of is the album’s finale, the song “Decades.” Though it’s only my opinion, this is one of my favorite songs of all time. They couldn’t have ended the album any other way.
What do I love about the album, besides the finale? Not to sound cliche but I love the atmosphere of the whole album. It starts off well with “Atrocity Exhibition.” The album slows down and speeds up and slows down again. It has its own distinct atmosphere of melancholy I’ve never heard elsewhere. Their music paved the way/inspired countless future acts and it continues to still.
Well, I certainly couldn’t have said it any better myself! Thank you so much Josh! Alright, let’s do it, shall we? Here we go (exciting, isn’t it?)…
The TSURURADIO Vinyl Preservation Society Proudly Presents… Closer on Vinyl!!!
I have to admit… everytime I see the title “Heart and Soul”, that really cheesy song by T’Pau pops in my head. Sorry Joy Division fans, I’ve been programmed.
Peace, love, & LPs,
