Hello my dear friends! Guess what? Yesterday was our 1 year anniversary here at TSURURADIO. Wow, eh? Who’da figure it…? A site that was originally used to share some Neon Bible leaks with friends would turn into the behemoth it is today! lol.
Well, regardless, it’s just another day here at TSURURADIO headquarters, which means our vinyl onslaught continues, today is something a bit different, a bit less common, maybe something you meant to learn about or listen to but never got around to? Well, that’s my story anyway….
You see, when the Anniversary broke up, a few of them (three, I believe) stayed together, got some dirty, hairy (and possibly B.O. ridden?) friends and formed what looked like an Allman Brothers tribute band. I was curious to hear this, for sure, as I really liked the Anniversary, but acquiring the album without purchasing was not easy to come by… As time grew & passed by, other albums won my air time, and I kinda forgot about them, until the other day.
My wife and I poked into the Magnolia Thunderpussy (my favorite local record shop), and as I was thumbing through their selection, where there sat two copies of their first album on LP (reasonably priced, I might add). So fuck it, I bought it (along with Okkervil River’sThe Stage Names). We spent Friday & Saturday painting, but Sunday was for ripping and I got this bad boy ripped up for ya good!
So, how is it? It’s good! It’s taking some time to get used to, not the music really, just the idea that you can just erase your current image, don some clothes, hair, and dinginess of a completely different era & style of music (and accent, by the way, their southern drawl gets a bit thick in some parts) and put out a brand new record as if the past never occured? THAT is what’s having a hard time getting through my ears… But who knows what occurred to cause this, who knows what metamorphic event came along (or maybe it was just a bunch of weed).
Maybe it’s just me? Oh well, whatever, nevermind, to each his own, my baby always says… musically (and that’s what’s most important anyway), they’ve definitely captured the sound they are looking like they should be playing perfectly! It’s good rootsy-shit, so let your hair grow long, straighten it out, put on some thrift store clothes, grow a beard, stop taking baths, and put this record on now, as….
