Wanted to make it on my own tonight

Among the hoopla of the bigger name leaks such as Interpol and New Pornographers, as well as more Smashing Pumpkins news & songs for those who are interested I guess, this album quietly dripped onto my iPod, patiently waiting it’s turn to be heard.

Apparently this was written quickly and recorded while his French love was stuck in some immigration legal shit and denied a visa. Ah, you gotta love immigration and homeland security. Nothing like being denied sweet lovins to get some songwriting inspiration going, eh?

If my baby was deported to Canada, I’d probably write a fucking symphony expressing my longing and heartache!!! Or, I’d probably just move to Canada.

Shit, I’m getting sidetracked… John’s Emerald City offers us a vander-slice (HA!) of anxiety and paranoia wrapped around amazing pop melodies and the occasional fuzzed-out acoustic guitar. What the fuck more do you want? I posted three of the ones that stood out the most to me, each very different, each beautiful. Tell me “Tablespoon of Codeine” doesn’t sound like (musically, not vocally) it could end up on a Stars album? No, it’s not a rip-off or anything, it’s a compliment, but it’s definitely its own animal, stunning and haunting.

Alright, time to shut up and enjoy!
