Sweat drips from the tip of your nose

The leaks of Son Volt’s The Search & Wilco’s Sky Blue Sky had me strolling down my musical memory lane. Back to a days before the schism, when Son Volt and Wilco were just thoughts in Farrar and Tweedy’s minds on the bad days (though I’m sure there were a few).

Back then, we had No Depression, an album, a new “genre”, a crappy magazine, and an amazingly & surprisingly influential band that spawned this thing we still call alt-country.

*cringe*

Boy do I hate that label. Oh well. The Uncle Tupelo discography got reissued with some bonus tracks, and perusing through my local independent record store (Magnolia Thunderpussy) I came across the first one. Standouts to me include Graveyard Shift, No Depression, and today’s feature, Screen Door. I added a few more, including two of the bonus tracks.

Load ’em up and stroll with me…

Uncle Tupelo – Screen Door

Down here, where’s we’re at
The weather changes, that’s the way it goes

Sometimes it snows, when everything’s wrong

Sometimes it snows, but when it does, it doesn’t last long

Down here, where we’re at
All we do is sit out on the porch

And play our songs, and nothing’s wrong

Sometime friends come around, they all sing along

Down here, where we’re at

Everyone is equally poor

Down here, we don’t care
We don’t care what happens outside the screen door

Down here, where we’re at
Sweat drips from the tip of your nose

You wear loose clothes, and you try to stay cool

We all still have a lot of fun, never saw much school

Down here, where we’re at
Everyone is equally poor

Down here, we don’t care

We don’t care what happens outside the screen door
